Hello!
I was wondering if someone can help me.I have been taking dexedrine for ADD for about 3 years and it has helped me tremdously.
after these years, I feel like it is building up in my system and I never really get a good sleep.
I am also becoming depressed.I take 5mg 8 times a day and last dose at 3pm.
I find that if i DONT drink I dont sleep very well. even though I sleep 7 hours or more it feels as though I only slept maybe 4.I would like to know if there is a way to totally eliminate it from my system at night before bed?
Would this be like taking a handful of chewable sugarless vitamin c and taking L-glutamine?
Low carb diet so sugarless is a must.
Any recommendations would help greatly !

Can you switch to something besides Dex? I have taken every stimulant known to mankind and that was the only one that messed with my sleep like that. Adderall didn't nor did any form of Ritalin but one Dexedrine spansule in the morning was a sure indication that I would not sleep at night. Good luck finding an answer...if you do let me know!

I live in queensland australia and they dont have adderall here yet.
thought about provigil.
I feel like something is depleted. dopamine?
something changed. it seems like I am getting more and more depressed.anyone out there know if it is safe to take strattera AND Dexedrine? or zoloft? etc?
here is something for those like me, learned if I take 1 serenity (www.findserenitynow.com) not everynight but every 3 days before bed it works incredibly in the morning.

My soultion, although I'd rather find a better one is
1. Ambien
2. Last dextroamphet (short-acting) pill no later than 6 pm, preferably 5 pm. Sometimes I take only 1/2 a dose.
3. If I run out of stim too much before bedtime, I switch to caffiene, which gets out of my system in less than 2 hours.
4. I take my lexapro about 1 hour before bedtime with a light snack. I don't know if that helps, but it is what I do -- it is possible to be on SSRI and stims at the same time.Also, oddly, I've noted that if I drink before bed (never more than a glass of wine) I need more Ambien to get me to sleep. I think, but am not sure, that this started when I switched from ritalin to dextroamphet.

Is there anything out there that I can take around lets say, 7pm to eleminiate the dexedrine from my system?
Certian type of vitmain C?
Asorbic acid?
vitamins?Also, can dexedrine build up in your system?

I don't believe it typically builds up in your system-on the contrary, I think that stimulants are eliminated relatively quickly...
However, you mentioned in your first post that you take it 8 times a day - if you're taking the regular dex, (as opposed to extended release) my experience has been that the theraputic effects wear off in about 4 hours... perhaps taking it so many times is approximating taking larger doses at less frequent intervals?
[that is, perhaps it IS building up a little in your system, since it would seem that you must be taking more before you body completely metabolizes the previous dose(s)? ...in effect increasing the amount in your system throught the day, likely even peaking toward bed time - or at least shortly (a couple hours?) after your last dose?]
Perhaps an extended release forumlation may help, since they're supposed to ease the "crash" that many experience when stimulants wear off?
... or perhaps changing your dosing schedule? Perhaps larger doses less frequently?
Lastly, I'd say perhaps a benzo, or other "sleep type" med? ...though it seems likely that a doctor would lean toward trying to adjust your dosing schedule, rather than prescribing "downers" to counter the effect of the "uppers".
... as I said, just a few thoughts - don't know if they'll help - hope so.

I also found that dexedrine interfered with sleep. My pdoc
suggested ambien. Focalin XR doesn't have that affect at all.
