Anxiety! Why?

Posted by KayeBaby on April 28, 2007, at 22:00:18

I have been on EMSAM for 6 days and all of a sudden I am feeling really anxious out of the blue.

I just ate some dinner and the anxiety dtarted after that. I also took my B vitamin comples extra b6 and zinc. The food I ate was bbq ribs, sausage and french fries.

I have a head ache too.

What is this?

Thanks!
Kaye

I just took my BP as best I could on myself and I get 130/90 heart rate 93-all on the high side.

My heart rate is usually app 75-80 and BP 120's over 80's.

I am not prone to axiety attacks but do get wound up easily.

Is a concern?

Thanks!
K

Kaye, you have had such a great start on Emsam and I am so glad to hear about that.

However, you have still only been on it for six days, and Emsam still have probably 5-6 more weeks to take full effect. Until then and maybe even after then, you will always have some bumps in the road. No med is perfect.

I know with me, when I havent had anxiety for a long after trying a a new med, and then I feel anxiety for the first time on the new med, I focus on it and the anxiety becomes worse because thats all I am thinking about.

If possible, try to alter your thinking. Tell yourself you are on the road to recovery, tonight is just a little bump, and then do something to distract your mind, whether it is taking a walk, listening to music, reading a book or watch TV.

Prayers, Michael

I think from the first thread of EMSAM users that the med started kicking in about this time. Do you have something for anxiety? When Michael sees this he will have an answer for you. Love Phillipa

The anxiety was transitory.
I was more concerned about my BP. I went up to cvs and took it and it was 133/75 hr 89 so I'm alright. Just a worry wart.

I can handle a little anxiety once in a while it is fatigue that is my nemesis. :)

I took some cal/mag. I really shouldn't have to worry about food restrictions on the small does of EMSAM I am on, should I?

Thanks for the reassurance, guys!

I'm fine now.

Peace,
Kaye

EMSAM ending day 6

I just put a fresh patch on about 1/2 an hour ago.

I think that my axiety was a result of leaving my nicotine patch on for too long. Yes, I am a patch slappin fool!

I smoked about a pack a day but I think I burnt them more than I smoked then because I can't tolerate even the 14 mg patch for more that a few hrs at a time. They absolutly wipe out cravings though-better than the gum.

I had a really good day today. Not tired.

Thanks for all the encouragement. I am crutch-less right now with no pills and no cigs. Just you all and a couple of patches seem to be a providing me well with a great safety net.

Gratitude,
Kaye

Sounds like it could have been a glutamate reaction. Barbeque sauces and sausage can be right full of free glutamate. Taurine will stop a glutamate reaction cold.

I'll bet you are right, Larry.
Good Call!

I wasn't even thinking of the obvious.

Thanks!

There are NO food restrictions-NEVER SAY NEVER

I'm all the way up to 12 mg now, with no food reactions, but while on 6 mg I had a reaction to eating a lot of soy sauce. Raised my blood pressure to about 140 from 120--and sausage is an aged meat.

Just a word to the wise.

All I can tell you is that FDA said approved this drug with ZERO food restrictions on the 6mg patch with extensive controlled studies. Now they never bothered to do the research to see if there were really any restrictions on the 9 and 12mg patch, but they went ahead and suggested food restrictions to cover themselves.

I am NOT saying what you had is NOT legit, but ppl (myself included) have had food reactions WITHOUT being on any meds.

If you feel that eating the soy sauce was a direct response to Emsam and you are not taking any other meds or have never had another similiar type of experience in your life (even when not taking meds), then you should call the FDA or the makers of Emsam to report this. Im serious. They will have someone interview you.

Thanks, Michael

Here's the only Bristol-Meyers Squibb # I could find you. Tell them you had a bad reaction to one of their meds and they will give you another # to call.

Please report this.

The information I read about Emsam showed that Somerset had done research on the 9 and 12 mg patches, as well as the 6 mg. There research showed that the 6, 9 and 12 mg patches were equally safe. The safety was quite substantial, but there were variations in response between patients and in the same patient at different times.

Some, quite rare, people did have tyramine reactions. It was found that the risk was essentially the same on all dose levels-- and that therefore, there is some, very small risk for susceptible individuals on the 6 mg patch. The arguments for requiring warnings on the 9 and 12 mg patches didn't make much sense-- but there they are.

So you really can't say never-- although it really would be extremely unlikely.
