My doc just put me on zyprexa (already take Cymbalta, Lamictal, xanx and concerta). I have not started to take it yet because i have mixed feelings about adding ANOTHER medication to my list. but my depression is increased and my battle with anorexia is getting bad. anyone have suggestions about this med or any other med that might be more beneficial? i have heard some negative reports about zyprexa..?
thank you :)

Hi meAgain,
Maybe you should give it a try. Keep a strict record on how and when you take it and what effects it has caused. Give it a month? and see how you feel. Note especially how it effects your weight and your depression. Zyp is supposed to put on weight. Get annual check up for diabetes. (If you stick with it for that long). But keeping a diary of how it effects you can be very useful - especially when reporting to your doctor.
Good luck and better health

Ronaldo good advise. And it is hard to add yet another med so the notes would be helpful I was advised to do the same. Love Phillipa

Zyprexa is a real problem for people who have eating disorders -- because virtually ALL of the people I've known with eating disorders who have tried Zyprexa have had such GREAT results from it. And have gained weight. That's what makes it so hard -- that it works so very well for them, and they hate taking it because of the weight gain.
If you can get past your fear of weight gain enough to take it for a few weeks, it might be that it helps you enough that it makes it worthwhile to talk to your doctor about mitigating the weight gain. It can be done, although that means adding another drug, too, in most cases. Honestly, though, it's probably worth it to try. The people I've known who've taken it have loved it for how well it worked for them, despite the weight gain. And not everyone necessarily gains weight from it, although it is common.
It's so hard, isn't it? You are on a fair number of drugs, and I can see why you'd be concerned about adding another. While Zyprexa seems to work better than the other atypicals for the people I know, it might also be worth discussing Seroquel with your doctor, or Abilify, if the weight gain is too much for you to get past right now.
Good luck.

Hi Racer,
I don't think weight gain is an issue here.

zyprexa can be helpful. Some people dont even take it that often--they take it when they have "freak outs" of whatever sort (mania, panic, dysphoria, whatever). So...you may not need it everyday.
Weight gain is an issue, EPS is an issue, diabetes is an issue and, long term, TD could be an issue. TD with atypicals is less common than older meds (or so it seems so far...) but it does still happen, so do be aware of that.
Are you doing talk therapy, or are you doing meds mostly?

I find zyprexa to be a life saver. None of the other AP's worked for me. You will eat more. It may even replace lamictal and xanax. As zyprexa is great for anxiety. Lamictal is a mood stabilizer, which zyprexa is realy good at.

seroquel works like candy and i have this disease since early childhood, and for 7 years i did not know what was going on with me, i never had any hallucination or voices (not entire, i do think lot negative and not much positive) so i guess we can call it psychosis
you will know in 3 weeks if you are cured or not.. btw .. i heared that it works much better then zyprexa
good luck...
never tryed?? this is the only thing that worked 100% after suffering 8 years of psychosis
for treatment resistant psychosis, it also reduces my TD somewhat so...
you will get groggy for 3 weeks and YES when it kicks in you will propably feel great after suffering...
this aint funny no more... lot of older people get this sh*t too.. my question is, do they have the courage ?? i hope so..
