Parnate tolerance, anyone?

Posted by halcyondaze on February 20, 2007, at 16:02:01

One of my biggest fears in taking Parnate is that I will develop a tolerance to it. I am currently taking 120 mg/day but how long will I be stable? I am not used to being stable and I'm afraid that it will end.

For those of you who have taken Parnate, did you ever develop a tolerance? What was your solution? I know I can always raise the dose but I'm already at a high dose and don't know how far I can push it - is this designed to be a "forever" medication? I haven't heard much from people who have been on the same dose for long periods of time.

I wish there was more research out there on MAOIs.

A drug any drug until we know for sure what were treating is a INTRUSION to your body/brain.Your brain will only do what it is supposed to and eventualy adapt etc,i dont think any drug comes without a loose of efficay sometime or another, thus the juggling of cocktails etc begins.

I lift weights, and this theory is the same, your muscles PLATEU if you work them the same way, time wight etc,you have to literaly TRICK them into growing in a way they normaly wont,i believe now this is true in meds as well.

But like a pizz pie,you need a bottom foundation, without that you get know where,SO hoping this makes sense,id recomend you simply enjoy enjoy the remission as long as you possably can,and if it does begin to loose effectivness just remeber the trials of other drugs and id stay on this and try to work with it unless u feel another drug can offer more help.

I personaly aside from chairmans succes with nardil am not even tempted to make another drug my primary med,i would need much convincing to drop this as my primary and instead continue to add/augment it becuse i am in this way able to live a life, ssris offered nothing for me,zlich zero nodda plus nodda, and for i have no desire to touch them again.

please feel free to visit my website too,on the notorious myspace,

www.myspace.com/redhook23

My advice, just relax and enjoy it now, knowing there prob isnt a med out there that will not eventualy poop out, simply because we dont know exactly what were treating,we just have pounds of theorys.

I just need to find a med as this thyroid problem is up and down and I don't want to mess with psych meds as the same time as synthroid. Love Phillipa

I don t know what cubybear's dose is, but I do know that she has been taking it for 20 years - Parnate, that is. I've never heard mention of tolerance in her posts.

I have heard taht one way to augment parnate is with lithium.

Best of luck,

Diane
