I tried it a while ago and didn't like it. It seemed to have hardly any effect beyond making me a little more tense and edgy than normal.

I took it some years ago with horrible side effects, from urinary retention to eye twitches and weight gain to convulsions. I would never touch it again.

Hi meAgain

I have got 2 boxes of Olmifon waiting in my drawer - until such time as I wean myself off Zyprexa. (I am down to 2.5 mg for 11 days now - hope to complete my taper end of Feb) I definitely intend to try the Adrafinil but I have this theory that I have to get off Zyprexa first. More dogma than theory.

Have you started on Adrafinil? How do you find it? Any good results to report? I find it a bit pricey to buy from America so I may go across to France on the ferry and see if I can get it cheaper there. I live on the south coast of England. This will probably involve seeing a French doctor for a prescription which might be tricky seeing my use is off label.

I would be very grateful to hear of your experience with Adrafinil. Apparently you have to watch out for elevated liver enzymes if you use it for more than approx. 4 months.

Thanks

ronaldo

I have toyed with adrafinil several times over the years. And I keep trying it. By itself I do not like it. It is one of those meds that I think seems best as an ingredient in a combination that pulls everything together. It perked up prozac nicely and I stayed on that combo for a couple years. It added energy, motivation, and interest. On this page is a thread by Jimmyboy who is having a successful time with adrafinil.

Just my experience alone, but it seems to work best in combo with a ssri.

What happens when I take it. Immediate energy and mood elevation on day 1. Energy and concentration boost continues, but mood elevation disappears after that. Then after a few weeks, it 'kicks in'. But without a ssri, it just doesn't work right. Too much restlessness, obsessiveness, uptightness.

Adrafinil breaks down in the body to provigil. So it is a poor man's version of provigil. But the two are not directly comparable. Some people prefer one over the other.

I think the doses given on the instructions are too high. I found best results in the 300mg to 600mg range. 300mg was my favorite dose. I have tried once daily dosing versus multiple dosing and I like multiple dosing better. I split a pill in halves or quarters for that.

Like I said, by itself I do not like it at all. But with a ssri it is a completely different positive way. Don't know why it changes personality so drastically like that.

By itself it does offer one benefit for me. It can lift me from the depths of despair pretty quickly on the first day. After that, not much good. It really needs a ssri as a partner. But that is just my experience and will not be the same as someone else. You know how mileage varies.

It helped me with daytime sleepiness but also gave me hives. i thought it made my thinking wooly. Provigil seems relatively "easier" but I don't knowe why.

I didn't think much of adrafinil. It seemed like a placebo to me, except that perhaps it made me feel slightly worse....

It did absolutely nothing for me neither. I tried it for a week, then gave the rest to my wife, she says it gives her a bit of a lift..perhaps placebo??
