has anyone experienced nightmares on this drug?!

Using it with 200mg lamictal and 600 mg l-theanine.........maybe it will take a few weeks for the full effects to kick in!

Hi,

I think this trend will continue--tianeptine, in my experience and from what I've read, doesn't tend to have the SSRI side-effects, gets good marks on libido (I've taken it for many months, and no problems), but for most people is not stimulating.

I have not experienced nightmares on it (it improves my sleep slightly), but I have heard of it causing sleep disturbances. They are the primary side-effect noted in some of the studies on tianeptine. However, it has a very short halflife (around 2 hrs?), so some users have had succes simply by skipping the evening dose, or moving it up a few hours so that it's out of their system by the time they go to bed.

Best wishes,
P-bot

I've been taking Tianeptine now for about a month. I've noticed some *slight* stimulation and yesterday it seem to build into something definitely more pronounced.

Last night I finally ended up taking a Valium. Today I've skipped my morning dose and I'm on the rocks whether to continue or not. I feel tired (full nights sleep) but I don't feel nearly as scattered.

I agree the side-effect profile was relatively reasonable (until yesterday) but before this I simply wasn't experiencing anything that would make me think this is something to continue. Any thoughts?

How long did it take before you had results?

I don't think it's common, but some people apparently get a mild stimulant effect from tianeptine (there are occasional cases of people abusing it for this effect). Maybe that's what you were experiencing?

As for me, I responded within a week or two, though I respond pretty quickly to most ADs. I'm sure most docs would say to give it a few more weeks, but thirty days seems like it might be an adequate trial to me.

Thanks for the feedback. I'd read about rare cases of abuse, I can't imagine doing that (it really just leaves me somewhat aggitated, with headaches at >12.5 mgs).

I'll give it a few more days and see. Maybe it was a fluke?

Glad my experience could help a bit. There's so much information you don't get from physicians or the drug labeling sometimes--it's frustrating.

Does seem strange that it would suddenly cause agitation after four weeks, but I guess you never know.

Best,

Could have just been me. I took my dose this afternoon and haven't had the same reaction.

Who knows. I'll keep an eye on it over the next week or so. It does seem to build up in my body, maybe I should pick up the pace on that liver test! :P

Mark,
I haven't really noticed any results (aside from that transient aggravation and some mild activation).

I've been taking it for a tad over a month now at 12.5 mgs a day (between 9 and 11 am, anything higher and I get a headache regardless if I take a second dose later in the day).

What dose are you taking? How frequently and for how long? Are you taking it along with anything else? (I'm still taking Phenibut at night, which I should probably stop)

Thats quite a low dose from wot i can gather, but some people are more sensitive to meds than others. nearly 12 days at the standard 12.5mg x 3!!!

Must admit i have had these sharp weird pains very occasionly but dont know what that is?!

im taking lamictal 200mg
l-theanine 3 x 200mg
and just started memantine 5mg (by far the most "powerful" med iv ever tried!!!)

Regarding the pains, I don't know. I'd had some myself when I take the Stablon too close to the Phenibut (say, at the same time @ 25 mgs).

The pain felt like my liver and I only took the two together like that the one time (I'm not sure why I did in the first place).

Ya, everything that I've read pointed towards 12.5 3 times a day. I tried, but the headache didn't seem to diminish (I'm usually not sensitive, but obviously mileage does very!).

Isn't tianeptine a bit pricey ($$$) for those of us in the US? What did you guys pay for a 30 day supply?

Since its unavaillbe here (in the US) I've had my choice of various importers, so the price is actually lower then I'd expected.

I'm paying about $15 per 30 I think?

Could someone explain what tianeptine is....

I have not been able to come to the board for quite a while now. Been hospitalized and extremely depressed. After reading many posts it seems to me that I have missed knowing about quite a few medications. I have never hear of tianeptine. It sounds as though it has had some good results for some of you. It would be so appreciated it someone could explain to me what kind of medication this is.

Thank you so much,

maryhelen

I felt the effects more or less from the first dose, and by Day 2 I knew it was going to suit me.

What it gives me is (for want of a better expression) a feeling of optimism rather than bleakness, and a mild prosocial effect.
Both of which are things that help.

I imagine that if this is what you need it might be useful. But our experiences of 'depression' are so varied.

There are 2 types of Stablon. That made in France, and that made in India. The Indian one is half the price, or thereabouts.

Hi,

There are probably a few posts in the archives giving a good idea of this medication, but here are a few words:

It's a different sort of antidepressant, in that its primary mechanism of action is thought to be -increased- serotonin reuptake (the opposite of SSRIs). For some patients it has many fewer side-effects than other antidepressants. It also seems to reduce damage from stress-chemicals and has been shown to restore the growth of dendrites in the hypothalamus.

Structurally, it is a (modified) tricyclic, but generally lacks the antihistaminic, anticholinergic, and various receptor-blocking effects of the tricyclic class. It has other effects on monoamines though, such as boosting levels of dopamine (slightly) in the nucleus accumbens, through an unknown mechanism. It is closely related to amineptine (survector), but mostly lacks the stimulant effects of that drug.

It can be good for anxiety, but is (some think) not a very powerful antidepressant. However, it is very helpful for some patients, like me. It is not available in all areas of the world.

Not too bad. Do you take three a day?

I can't, if I take more the one I get a headache. Its also appears to be causing some agitation for me so I'll probably discontinue.

Too bad, very interesting AD (but there are others!).

I take three a day. Sometimes three-and-a-half or four. I would think that one a day would be too little to get much benefit, but the doses are not that well studied. Three a day is definitely standard, but one study I read cautiously recommended anything from 25-50mg.

I'd read that too. I'm typically not drug-sensitive so I expected whole-heartedly to start at 3 a day and consider titrating up (I've got a pill cutter from my titration down with Valuim). But I get annoying headaches if I take more, so I guess it doesn't agree with my body in some way.

It was my wifes birthday yesturday and I had another terrible reaction (my typical terrible days are much different then these 'reactions' as I'm much more used to dealing with them) so I ended up taking 20 mgs Valium. I'm throwing in the towel on the Stablon. I can't have it adversely affecting my mood randomly like this. Olmifon is next up.

I got a slight headache the first day or so, and a feeling that seemed like nervous irritation.

[The headache went away quickly, the sense of irritation more slowly. Now I find I want to increase the dose (surprise surprise).]

Could these effects be a sign that you have reached the optimal dose?

I'm not sure, but the irritation is making me unbearable (aside from plain feeling terrible).

The headaches I've had sense day 1 (if I take more then a single dose) and haven't shown any sign of diminishing (I was trying the 1 X 3 regime, then I moved to 1 X 2 for most of the month before deciding that having to take an Ibuprofen along with my second dose was plain silly).

I'm assuming you are having some positive results. I'd be curious to hear about those too.

One bloke felt like he was tripping, another felt not right. It suited me though. I'd even, from time to time, start up conversations with strangers, I almost became one of those people that good things happen to (the *almost* wild optimism you can sense there is this morning's tablet kicking in).
But maybe it's not for you? Unless you can titrate your way out of trouble with some fraction of the dose?

Thanks for the feedback. Very interesting to hear the different reactions.

I've been off now for my second day and am feeling much better. I think I'm going to chalk it up to didn't agree with me. Hopefully my Adrafinil will arrive this week and I can move onto phase 2.

Did you say how long you've been taking the Stablon? And by 'almost' do you think the positive effects are increasing or have they plateaued.
