Day 1....Ensam Patch

Posted by want2breal on November 24, 2006, at 23:42:52

Day 1 of the Ensam Patch. All is well, and I feel good today. It seemed to give me energy. Now the question will be....can I sleep? I just took 5 mg. Ambien, and am going to try and catch some zzzzzzzz's.
I hope i'm not too energized to sleep. I was able to go for a walk and get a little studying done today. I went to a friend's house tonight, had dinner with the family, and socially enjoyed everything.
Will post day 2 tomorrow.

I slept okay last night. Ended up taking 10 mg. of Ambien, but hopefully I will not have to do that every night.
I have had a great day, have felt focused and less stressed. I pray this is my miracle drug.
Will post more later.

day3/4 SETBACK???? What to do?

I splept pretty good last night....
Went to church as usual with kids. Haven't had an appetite at all for 3 days, so I skipped lunch and went for a long walk. Went shopping. Went to p.m. church and had a crying spell during prayer time. Told everyone about all of the stress I was in. I just figured this was normal stuff (and probably is)...
Then, I took my 10 mg. ambien, but haven't been able to sleep yet. It is now 2:38. I pulled the patch off around midnight. My heart is pounding still and I can't seem to relax.
Darn! And here I was thinking this would be my miracle drug.
What do I do now? Do I call the dr. tomorrow, or do I give it a few more days?
Help!

I guess 4 days is too early to make a judgment. I still feel good, and have had no anxiety.
I just hope my system will adjust to this so I can stay on it.
Usually 10 mg. of ambien knocks me right off my feet, and I sleep great.

Seems like this is when the insomnia kicks in. Klonopin is used by a lot of the first EMSAM posters. I'd call the doc maybe a lower dose? Love Phillipa

Hi want2breal.

I wanted to follow up on the "beating heart" symptom you were having. Did that stop? how long did it take-- and was it really a strong sense of palpitations-- or just a figure of speech, meaning maybe you were extremely anxious?

Have you had it before?

Just checking--

Jost

Hi Jost,
THanks so much for replying. I really think it was just anxiety, and the fact that I wasn't very rested. My heart beat that way when I was on Welbutrin also, I guess I could just really feel it.
I really hate the fact that I have to be on something like this.
Is EMsam in fact, a stimulant...
I'm guessing, yeah it is, but why do some have no side-effects.....and I do??????
I will be cutting it in half tomorrow and see what happens.
I go back to the dr. on Monday.
I may ask to go back on the lexapro. It was more soothing to me, though I did have some mood swings on it....

I need to be calmed, instead of stimulated. Maybe emsam isn't for me????
How are you doing on it, Jost?

Hi, again, want2breal.

Emsam does definitely have stimulant properties-- so yes, although the anti-depressant properties are different and manifest themselves more slowly-- there could be a more immediate stimulant effect.

If stimulants don't work well for you-- there's a chance that Emsam might not be the best med-- but on the other hand, it's too soon to know--

You undoubtedly have a lot of knowledge about how you react to different things. I have lots of problems with SSRIs-- and am highly reactive-- right away-- no question.

I took Emsam for about four months (June-end of Sept.) and did really well on it. It improved my mood, energy, and ability to handle social situations with more confidence-- I'd say I started noticing some benefits after a week to ten days. It was subtle-- but noticeable after I thought about how I felt about things- and this became stronger over the time.

Especially important, longterm, I made real progress in therapy--more than ever before-- and I think that contributed to the overall effect.

In October, I had a side effect from another medication , so I stopped Emsam, and I've restarted about five days ago.

But if you did really well on lexapro-- that might be the best. How long were you on it? was there a particular reason you stopped?

Jost
