Anyone intolerant of SSRI's and/or stims?

For ADHD and depression? I can't tolerate either. If so what do ya take (if anything). Thanks.

Tyrosine...but dosing is tricky and takes experimentation to find the right schedule and dosing. If it is going to work and be tolerable, you will know within a few hours. If not, it will wear off a few hours after that.

This might sound really weird, but seriously, zyprexa 5mg to 10mg.

I could go on for many paragraphs explaining the reasoning behind these choices, but there is rhyme and reason to it.

Tyrosine should give you a good idea the first day. Zyprexa should give you a good idea in a few days.

Just curious have you tried luvox? It's the only SSRI I can tolerate. But am on low doses now. In the past I took higher doses. Love Phillipa

Thanks so much for the suggestions, blueberry. I've actually tried tyrosine and it gave me chest pain. Never thought about Zyprexa though...thanks for mentioning it--very much appreciated ;)
Peace...Saturn.

Hi Phillipa,

I took Prozac for nearly a year (30 mg). It caused a rapid heart rate, insomnia and sexual side effects with minimal benefits.

And after severe chest pain following 2 days on Zoloft I doubt I'll ever try another SSRI again ( I was not taking any other meds). I can deal with annoyances but chest pain I won't mess around with.

I'll bet 9/10 docs would say I'm exaggerating my response to SSRI's or a hypochondriac because they are so safe and used practically every population, but I know how I respond. Perhaps I might tolerate another SSRI but I also thought I **might** tolerate a different stimulant when I couldn't tolerate Ritalin and I ended up in the hospital after brief trials of Adderall and Dexedrine. Now I'm gun-shy. Thanks so much for your suggestion...Saturn.

Prozac was very stimulating and panic by day three so dumped them down the toilet. Luvox is the most sedating of the SSRI's when I first tried it I waited for a side effect but None? Love Phillipa

Hey Phillipa,

Have you tried any other ssri's besides luvox and prozac and if so how did they compare?

Do you like luvox?

Tried them all. My case is complicated cause of menopause at the time, finding out I had chronic lymes disease, and thyroid disorder all at the same time. But luvox was the only one I could tolerate. It didn't relieve depression. So I'm not sure how to answer you. I did go up to 250mg once and no depression for about two weeks. Then the other stuff started. So steady downhill from that point. I still take low dose luvox only 25mg. Love Phillipa

Are you talking about tyrosine for depression or ADD? Or both? I'm also looking for something new to try. I've tried everything... I either can't tolerate or they just don't work, or both.

Can you give me a clue how much tyrosine a person might take to start with?

Thanks.
