how to prevent wellbutrin poopout? augmentation?

Posted by iforgotmypassword on October 12, 2006, at 2:46:12

i am considering starting wellbutrin again. i am spending all of my time in bed and it is hell. as usual, writing messages and simple tasks end up just grinding metal in my head, and i have so little i am successful with in any of my days.

if i were to try wellbutrin again, would lamotrigine or topamax help keep away poopout? due to their impeding effects on glutamate release? anything else maybe? maybe even memantine or amantadine (if amantadine really is a meaningful NMDA antagonist)?

is there anything else that may help?

i am considering daily magensium and zinc, if that may help. i don't know which types to try. i currently have citrate versions of both. i could go with a mutliple times a day vitamin that has meaningful levels of both minerals if that might be at all helpful? i kind of worry as all multis have calcium.

i am also currently taking aricept 5mg/day, buspirone off and on (probably stopping), and amoxicillin. i worry about magnesium maybe forcing amoxicillin out of my body and maybe even the aricept (which is VERY expensive) as they seem to warn about this sort of thing randomly as i read stuff.

I wasn't aware that Topamax was a GLU release inhibitor. That's interesting. Perhaps you can find me something on that.

(1/2 hour later) I just did some research, and found that Topamax negatively modulates AMPA/kainate glutamate receptors, effectively antagonizing them. I'll have to update my chart.

My doctor is having quite a bit of success with Wellbutrin + Lamictal combination. Others here have described a synergistic energizing effect from the combination.
