the clock reads 1:11 - 2:22 - 4:44

SORRY IF THIS IS NOT on-topic FOR THIS BOARD...
Didnt know where to ask..... (dr. bob my apologies if it is in the wrong place)

Does this happen to anyone else ?
I will look at the clock (home, cell, car, etc) at random and i VERY VERY often catch the time at repetitive iterations like 1:11 2:22 3:33 etc...

It kinda bugs me out a bit when it happens (which sometimes is alot)... then it wont happen for days. Makes me feel a bit crazy (more than usual) when it happens.

I have tried to look up this phenomenom on the net, but have not found anything. Someone once mentioned Jung and Synchronicity... but i couldnt glean anything useful

Was curious if this happens to anyone else ?
Anyone know what to call it ?

Human beings can be quite good at calculating time intervals, maybe subconsciously you are counting to these time events. Perhaps becuase you think they have special significance or maybe because it happened randomly once or twice and the idea stuck. As far as I remember synchronicity is when events which have special meaning to you or that you thought about happen, the classic example is thinking about someone and then they phone. Another thing to consider are ideas of reference, these are when we think that something fairly random has a specific meaning meant just for us. Ie a billboard message, newspaper story or a car number plate. I get ideas of reference and events of synchronicity and deja vu alot. I dont think you are crazy. I think the mostly likely explanation is that you have attached some significance to these time events and subconciously set an internal alarm clock. People do things like this all the time eg many of us wake just before the alarm clock if we have some special reason to like an exam or meeting.
Just my opinion Bunny

I just wanted to add that for me my special time is 2:30pm. I heard a joke once, what is the best time to visit the dentist? tooth hurty. Now whenever I find myself randomly thinking of teeth even though I am unaware of the time the clock will read 2:30. Silly really.
PS: its also special becuase of the number 23

It could also be selective attention.

You might have coincidentally looked at the clock at 1:11 and 2:22 or 4:44, a few times, and then begun to worry that it meant something.

Once you focus on something, you can start to notice it more whenever it re-occurs, especially if you're concerned about it.

I look at the clock a lot, but don't notice the seconds. If I did, I could notice patterns, which then might seem more than random. But probably that would involve discounting the times that didn't fit the pattern.

Like knowing you have to get up at a certain time. Set two alarm clocks and you wake up first. I do have special numbers but they deal with license plates. Anyone think there are OCD patterns to any of this? Love Phillipa

Probably calling it OCD, unless there's a lot more to it, is too extreme.

There are lots of small compulsivities in life that are just little ways of momentarily warding off anxiety, but don't amount to the profound effects of OCD.

You may associate a number with some luck you had, which might not be rational-- and might be a very very mild relative of what can be ODC-- but not enough so as to worry about it.

Jost I didn't mean the compulsive handwashing that stuff. I guess my wording was not very well done. There are times when I'm anxious that I will try to alleviate the anxiety or lessen it by doing something ritualistic. But not all the time. Love Phillipa ps like adding up the numbers on license plates

I have done that with numbers for years. Yep I do have OCD. It does'nt cause any anxiety though...lol....thank God!

ive wondered if my mind was " keeping time " sub consciously and causing me to catch the clock at the repetitive times... im not rulling it out, but sometimes (like last night) i walked into the kitchen and glanced up it was 11:11, that was kinda random (to me)... and it happens like that alot.

I am very aware of numbers and numerology ( like phillipa i add up liscense plates... /ill add up - work out any sequence of #s actually/ ) and like xbunny mentioned, the 23 enigma and the law of 5's etc has always intrigued me.

I can be Obsessive about numbers and their meanings ( to me, -- not the typical 7 is lucky and 13 is not )... thankfully it is not something that holds me back or has any OCD flavoring, it is kinda just for the "isnt that odd" factor... or the cosmic hint that the number i just worked out from the lic. plate in front of me will be that nights lottery winner...

My clock / number situation is prolly just my internal timing and selective awareness... my mind looking for connections... and prolly a bit of me wanting some sort of cosmic meta-physical message, or answer (validation?)... since i am not really getting any of that on "this" physical plane.

I just booked airline tickets, and all they had was row 13... my knee-jerk reaction was to say NO... but i forced myself to ignore that and booked em anyway... besides i am italian/american and in italy iirc 13 is a 'lucky' number.... too bad i am not flying to rome.

thanks for all the input... i appreciate the opportunity to look at this 'personal enigma' from a different angle.

I've got you, Phillipa. I understand--

One strange thing: in my building, there's no 11th floor!

I'm not sure if it was always that way, or if, after Sept.11, they changed it from no 13th floor to no 11th floor. I think they did, but not sure.

I always look at the clock at 12:34 (the one at night, not during the day)

and also 9:11 (the one in the morning, not at night)
