dizzyness, intoxicated feeling

Posted by llrrrpp on June 21, 2006, at 13:45:41

i get these little dizzy attacks a couple times a day for the last few days.

I don't think it's low blood sugar. I don't have the visual disturbance that I have gotten when I have fainted from heat stroke/low blood sugar.

more like a loss of equilibrium. A loss of kinesthetic feedback from the body. Yesterday evening, I actually felt intoxicated, as in drunk.

Meds 90 mg cymbalta (increased 6 days ago from 60 mg) 50 mg seroquel (increased 4 days ago from 25 mg)

diagnosis- MDD depression. with insomnia.

Other factors-50-100 mg caffeine in am and afternoon. no smoking. no alcohol in last 3 days (yay! go me!)

Woke up this morning with a killer headache. probably progesterone drop (I hate being a woman!!)

mood- really crappy, bad depression with cognitive and perceptual abnormalities. good appetite though!

Is the dizzy from the seroquel increase? or the cymbalta increase? what do you guys think?

Sorry for long post

I'd say the increase in the seroquel. It made me dizzy I almost fainted. Love Phillipa

okay, thanks Phillipa,
do you think I'll get used to the seroquel? It's a pretty small dose (50 mg). Otherwise I wake up at 3 in the morning. I prefer dizzy over exhausted!

I have those dizzy periods whenever I change meds (up or down) and also when I'm having periods of anxiety (periods of panic always start with them). So my guess is that it is either the med increase or some anxiety so you won't get bored with just being depressed! :>}

lol bassman
I get plenty of excitement from my anxiety, and the insomnia is a nice little distraction, in case I ever feel like I'm getting well, I just stop taking seroquel for a couple of days, and try to function on 3-4 hours of sleep. YAY!

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll stick it out for a while longer. If I fall down, I'll contact pdoc. other than that. Not much of a problem. Got health insurance to pay for my intoxication. I should invite y'all over for the party. you'll have to BYOB (bottles or meds- pick your poison)

sorry if my post seems dumb, this is only my 2nd time changing dosages, and these are my very first psych meds. Psychopharmer in the Dell.

Your post doesn't seem at all "dumb". We're here to help each other, no judge each other-Lord knows the external world will do plenty of that for us. Dizziness is really common with anxiety/new meds-and for some reason, universally scary. No one seems to be able to say, "well, ya know how people feel a little dizzy when they get up too fast, like after exercise? Same thing. I don't think I'll worry about it" No, we all think "MY GOD! I'm going to faint!!" The funny thing is, after years and years of having exactly those thoughts with dizziness accompanying anxiety, I did faint having my blood drawn. The guy that was taking the blood couldn't find a vein (first time that's happened) and I thought at one point he was trying to get the blood by stabbing me to death! :>} He kept muttering and stabbing and I just felt a little thirsty and asked for a glass of water. Next thing I knew, they had me lying down and were taking my bp and putting ice on my head. My point is: I thought you felt dizzy before you faint-nope. It is just a very calm feeling, no symptoms at all...all those years of worrying about fainting!
