Does Parnate make anyone clench their teeth?

Posted by maxime on April 11, 2006, at 22:59:59

Hi

I noticed it the first time I was on Parnate, and I am noticing it this time as well. But Parnate makes me clench my teeth (during the day).

Anyone else?

Yep ... just like speed.

In fact, look up many of the side effects for amphetamines and you will find that they also occur on Parnate.

I really think further studies need to be done as to the exact link between this drug and dopamine and the pharmacological similarities between Parnate and amphetamine. There has not been enough research, IMO.

For people who can tolerate developing a tolerance to the speed-like feeling, Parnate is a wonderful, amazing drug - like no other. But for drug addicts like me, it can be very very dangerous. :(

Also I need to remind you to be careful with Parnate and anorexia. My appetite and weight loss on the drug has now preceded two relapses (one of which is happening right now). The first time, I developed hypotension with syncope, had a seizure, and ended up in the E.R. where I was sent (involuntarily) to an eating disorders unit. Now that I have fired my treatment team (and am going off of Parnate) it's not such a concern but last week I collapsed twice in the subway and my weight is around 90 (I'm 5'2") - when I wasn't on Parnate, I didn't start collapsing until my weight reached the 70's. There is undeniably a connection there. You are not going to make it very long on Parnate if you're restricting heavily. It has nothing to do with your weight. It has to do with your intake. So basically you'll end up in the ER with an IV in your arm and possibly an NG tube up your nose and your weight loss efforts will have been futile.

Yep, me too when I first started it. Now it doesn't happen.

The 3 years on Parnate I never lost weight from it. Not even Parnate and Adderall. I have a painfully slow metabolism because of my thyroid and because of my ED.

But YOU, please be careful with the passing out. Drink more water.

I have a slow metabolism too. Like I said it had nothing to do with the weight loss. I lost weight because I simply stopped eating. It had to do with the restriction, not the loss itself.

Be careful or you're going to end up in the ER. Or go off Parnate. It is a VERY dangerous medication when not used properly.

No, not at all. For me it's energising, yet relaxing at the same time..sounds weird, and hard to explain, but it's true. I've been very fortunate with Parnate, The only side-effects i've had are the insomnia and daytime fatigue which i mentioned earlier..and oddly enough the higher my dose ( i'm on 150 now ) the less insomnia and less daytime fatigue also. It's seems it would be just the opposite, but not for me anyway. Guess i'm just a weird dude! :)

All my extremities are cold because I don't take in enough food.

The same thing happened to me. It's just a SE that some people get from Parnate. Cold all the time. I thought it was because I was loosing so much weight, but it's not really.

Well you definitely need enough calories for your metabolism to work right. I know how hard this is for you could you maybe try to eat more? Love Phillipa

Eating disorders are very complex creatures. I wouldn't wish one on my worse enemy. Trying to eat more is really hard. Even though I know I am wrecking my metabolism. All I care about is seeing the number on the scale go down.
