Cymbalta-activating or help sleep

Posted by Mandy on April 3, 2006, at 12:24:17

I thought that Cymbalta was to help sleep but when I took 30mg at night, I found my sleep even worse. Has anyone else found Cymbalta to be effective and activating? And I am not sure if I should go up to 60mg--what seems to be ideal dose?
I feel better but still not normal--I have bipolar and do not want to set the bipolar, manic part off

One of cymbalta's more common side effects is insomnia. I tried only microdoses of it and found it to be activating and bad for sleep. Other people find it makes them tired and they sleep great. I guess we all react differently. In clinical studies they tracked the progress of patient's mood improvements and side effect patterns. The insomnia side effects did eventually improve, but not until about 6 to 10 weeks on average.

Made me tired and energized and unable to sleep, all at the same time. Not cool, gave up and went back to boring old Lexapro!

Cymbalta did not help me sleep. I had to take 3 Benadryl every night to sleep. I was very emotional on it and grew big b-lls on it (sorry, don't know how else to put it) and I was wanting to literally fight with everyone that crossed me. Ended up extremely suicidal and in the hospital and then on my own stopped taking it. It helped my pain, but that's it. Just my experience, may not be this way for someone else.

I love Cymbalta 60mg, have gone to 90mg during major life issues.

BUT cannot take after 10:00 am.
Do best to take around 7:00 am then can fall asleep around 10:00pm.

Been on Celexa, Effexor XR, Prozac, probably something else I can't remember.

Cymbalta is my drug of choice.
