talking during sleep

Posted by med_empowered on March 19, 2006, at 15:11:01

OK--here's the thing: sometimes, when I sleep, I talk--to people. People will try to talk to me, and I talk back, but I'm always angry...I've thrown pillows at people, telling them to F--- Off (not normal behavior for me), I've told people to go to hell, etc...then, I wake up,and I don't remember it. What's going on? This happens both on and off medications.

I do that too...I guess you just have to say it sometimes.

Nightmares and you must be worried about something that you can express when you are awake. Fondly, Phillipa

When I was a kid I did that. A lot. Eventually ended up at a sleep clinic. They didn't really help (that was in the old days before they knew much). You might want to get your sleep health checked out by a specialist.

Children talk in their sleep like crazy, IME.

Just occasionally in dreams it is possible to experience conversations and events that are not fractious and frustrating. I had a lovely dream some weeks ago. It was the first for years, I think.

Not everything in life is a pathology -- lots of people talk in their sleep. You may be caught in a sleep paralysis state or something similar that you really have no control over. I can imagine its frustrating and embarassing but its some part of our sleep to wake cycle.

I have occasionally been known to try to "finish a dream" by talking aloud, or I think I have spoken anyway, I don't videotape myself [humour] -- and I have a sense that I said something as I woke up.

Pleasant dreams, hopefully
