Can someone please help me if they have taken Ritalin and had a poop out or the drug started to not be as effective, and what they did to fix it or any solutions. I dont understand my pdoc prescribed my Ritalin SR 10mg x 3 per day = 30mg. I bought the generic but that might not matter.
First 7 days the drug was working great I felt it working and mood uplifting and focused better.
But after about 2 weeks of the same dose I started to notice the effect less and less and less. Now about 3 weeks it barely does anything or I dont even notice the drug. Wether or not the way I felt when it first started were just the side effects I dont know.
I have an appointment with my pdoc Friday
But can you please share your stories or what you did to fix this thanks????

I have to correct that I take regular release Ritalin generic, not sustained release

There are anecdotal reports that memantine (Namenda) might help minimize or prevent tolerance to stimulants (there is actually more evidence of it doing this for opiods).
I have no idea if this is true or if it would fly with your doc, but you might want to look into it. Best of luck.

Taking stimulants on a daily basis often seems to lead to 'poop out'. Taking the Ritalin PRN might be a better strategy ie. only taking it when it's really needed eg. to concentrate on a difficult assignment.

Stay off it for a few days, as long as you can, 2-? days then start again, i know THAT FOR ME this brings back the calming anti-hyperactivity effects very well. Take a break for as long as you can, so when you start it again your Dopamine, D1@D2 receptors will respond well again. Constant (24/7) bombardment with excess Dopamine increases, will lead you to wanting stronger@stronger stimulants, eg Dexedrine, then wanting Desoxyn.
It has worked for me.

Thanks Its good to hear someone else who has experienced the same situation. Now my problem is I just filled a methylephindiate SR20 one month supply yesterday, it is very unaffective, but my doctor might be suspicious why if I asked him for the IR Ritalin right away!!
I have also done alot of reading, research on the internet, depending on what is really accurate who knows??? what I have read is that many people say this drug does not work.
I really dont know what to do now just have to wait 30 days I guess. Although its not recommended I could probably crush it up and put it in yogurt to get more out of it.

60mg per day 20mg tabs, also what is weird is that my pdoc actually wrote it for Ritalin LA. I went to the pharmacist and asked them if they have a generic, she said yes and handed me a bottle of generic SR 20mg tabs, she did not give me a LA generic, anways.

Thoes Ritalin LA capsules 20-40mg, are probably better than Ritalin SR20, which, i have read is only absorbed at 5-7mgs?

I have read taht Ritalin SR20 is absorbed only partially, I have also been scripted it, but found it unsatisfactory.

Here's what works for me:
1) Methylphenidate is much much better than dexedrine/adderall wrt poop out, tolerance, and food effects
2) Mixing up the formulation helps ritalin->concerta-->focalin
--> focalinXR+provigil-->wellbutrin+ritalin
3) Getting the right dose during the day that fits your schedule
Concerta at 7.00am + snall dexedrine dose + metadate CD in afternoon
4) sleep and exercise is essential
4b) Take vitamins, fish oil, 5HTP, Same, theanine, pikamilon
5) Don't confuse the physical/emotional/euphoric effects with the synptom relief. They are different.
6) Get an ADHD coach, have structure that helps you and the right job that gives you what you need
7) Don't expect the pills to fix everything. They just address a subset fo symptoms so you can get on with living yopur life. You still have to get of your *ss and live your life.
8.) Find beauty every day. Go into an art gallery. Talk to a beautiful girl/guy/cat. Walk thru beautiful architecture. Read "The Hours." Listen to Mozart, or Nick Cave, or the Beach Boys. Eat good food. Drink really good coffee.
