Has anyone taken luvox, i tried doing a search, so you all didn;t have to start repeating yourselves, but, i was not going back till october i was getting dizzy, ok rambling....
did you like it , side effects, weight GAIN? tell me i will not start it before i know all about it from real people not just some dr'd advice..thanks....

I've taken it quite a few time. The first time it worked really well and relieved depression without anxiety, no wt gain. Subsequent times it didn't work but no side effects no withdrawal. Fondly, Phillipa

It was selected for me because it is the most sedating of SSRIs and thus would have the least negative anxious effects.
It worked actually quite well once I got up to 400 [it is normally listed in the PDR at 300 but doctors typically exceed that. I think we dropped it a little bit because I was experiencing some electric shocks while excercising, which I still do with Cymbalta. Its a serotonergic effect of a lot of SSRI/SNRI/SSNRIs although its probably not a major side effect.] (and a little bit over that I think for a short bit), it stopped my OCD component of worrying 16 hours a day what may happen to my illness or what medicines would do to me and back and forth, etc. (and also downregulated dopamine a little, which was also a necessity for my problem) of my rare and complicated somatiform disorder.
It is the only SSRI that was specifically created for OCD although Paxil or Prozac are equally allright, Prozac is not as "clean" a drug though.
I dont believe I experienced much weight gain from it -- it can put on a marginal amount of pounds because it is the most sedating of SSRIs, but we're probably only talking in the range of 5 pounds or so. You may vary.
Shortly after I started it, it was orphaned off into generic land, I guess because newer SSRIs were already on the market and it wasn't making money probably. But that saved cost. So what you will get now is fluvoxamine maleate generic -- I think there is at least one, maybe two suppliers. But there was no particular appreciable difference between generic and the discontinued patented.

thank you both, but i have opted out of takeing it i started last night with my fist dose , and after some more research and sae most people put weight on, that was a risk not worth taking for me....and since it is like cymbalta with the sedating side effects i most defentatly will not be taking it,,, i could not moce on that drug....so i would rather cry all day, be pbesseive and starve myself all day then take something that might put on weight...thanks...

luvox is a good medication for both depression and anxiety (OCD---it has helped me greatly

The weight gain for most people with SSRIs is really minimal compared to the help they can provide, especially for OCD. Starvation is not necessary. A walk a day would probably suffice the weight gain that most people would experience.
In fact Luvox was used in a double-blind trial of people with binge-eating disorder (Am J Psychiatry 155:1756-1762, December 1998).Crying is a natural way of relieving anxiety, there is no shame in it, but it pains me to think one would want to be stuck in an obsessive cycle 16 hours a day. Now I don't know your diagnosis so of course the choice is up to you. You can also do CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) if you have OCD and don't want to take medication.

well, took the first dose and it was just like me on the cymbalta, could not get off the couch, nausea all day and into today, oh i felt like crap....and besides you give someone with an ED something that makes them nausea?i give up...

Have you and your doctor talked about trying Topomax with it? To see if maybe it could control the whole weight thing? I have no idea whether or not Luvox will be good for you, but the Topomax part would hold true for any SSRI.
Just a thought. And you know I feel for you, right? I certainly understand the part about "I don't want to take it if it causes weight gain."

Luvox frequently causes nausea at first. It will disappear though, if you keep taking it.

I'm sorry you felt nausea;... what was the starting dose your doctor gave you ? If you titrate up slowly and as Ed mentioned, the nausea goes away (and is common, 4 times more than placebo). It happened for me at dose upswings too. I chewed raw ginger and it mostly went away. An occasionally Pepto Bismol. You should not be starting any more than 50mg at bedtime and if you're super sensitive start a few days at 25mg, and continue the titration.

Sorry, make that 3 times more than placebo. But its just because some SSRIs touch the 5HT3 area more than others (which I know makes absolutely no difference to your situation, I just thought I'd say that). That's why novel anti-nausea medications block 5HT3.

well lets see, racer, thanks i know you can i and i see your posts and i am with you in spirit, and in heart but in mind i am stuck in the ED cycle...sorry.
ok now i am on 25mg of luvox and that was the side effects, i will though try again tonight....and if i feel like i did yesterday, then forget it i have 5 kids i cannot lay around all day on the couch, i rather be obsessive...better then a zombie? oh forgot i do take topamax 200 mlgrams a day, so not enough, along with 200 lg of lamictal.oh and did i mention nothing works? my life just sucks? if i eat i hate myself, if i don;t eat, then i am hungrt=y now and a failure, so is there anything good about my life? oh plus if i take any of the meds out there hey either make me sleep so the i cannot exercise 3 hrs a day or they make you fat....which would just throw me right over the edge.....so why am i here again?maybe i won;t take it....oh and then add 2 mg of klonapin in the morn and 2mgs at night....you would think i would be asleep by now....ok sorry for the ramble...
