Using sleeping pills(Lunesta) for anxiety

Posted by SadDoggie on September 19, 2005, at 2:04:40

I was wondering if you can use small dosages of sleeping pills like Lunesta for anxiety. I have a problem of benzo's helping me out, but pooping out on me. Since Lunesta has been made so you don't get addicted and it keeps on working, I was wondering if a small dose could work for anxiety without making you go to sleep. If I'm lucky who knows it might not wear out on me.

I don't really know the answer, but I often take Lunesta several hours before going to sleep so that it will calm my anxiety. It works. But it wears off in the morning and I never tried taking it in the morning to use as a daytime anti-anxiety drug.

I dont know...the only experiences I can relate to you have been with Sonata and Ambien. With Sonata, the pill wore off, or maybe wasn't strong enough to start with...anyway, I didn't fall asleep, and I had a conversation with my then-roommate that I only vaguely remembered the next day. She said I was chatty and sociable, but strangely giddy. Then, another time, I took an Ambien (10mgs), couldn't fall asleep, and remembered that I needed cigarettes. So, I ran down to the little store in my building and the guy behind the counter was like "are you f*cked up man?". I *really* wanted the cigarettes, and I was *really* confused, so I was just like..."whatever, where are my camels?". If you low-dosed it, I could possibly see some benefit but...I think the best course might be to have your doc work with you on properly adjusting a benzo; most people can find long-term relief with properly calibrated dosages of benzos. Augmenting meds can be used as well, if needed (ex: buspar, propranolol, possibly neurontin or gabitril). Good luck!

in low does, such as 50-25 mg per day. you will never have another sleeping problem.

it completely knocks out my rush of anxiety energy. the only downside is that sometimes it cam make you too groggy when you awake.

Seroquel made me feel like a drunken fool in the morning. I could think but when I talked nothing came out the way I meant it. And then I almost fainted. Fondly,Phillipa

every med affects every one differently. however, it seems seroquel brings on a lot of grogginess across the board. i have it all the time, but it is worth the payoff because it reduces my anxiety.
