Celexa and no energy - INFO NEEDED!

Posted by Meri-Tuuli on June 28, 2005, at 6:11:56

I would really like to find out how Celexa (cipramil) effects energy levels. I have been constantly tired and can sleep anytime and I have no motivation whatsoever. At first, I just thought that this might just be a 'phase' and it was just me, but increasingly I am begining to suspect that it might relate to the 20mg of Celexa I am taking.

Would appreciate any thoughts on this.....please! I am getting desperate. Any suggestions on which SSRI NARI might be good to address the motivation - I was thinking of trying reboxetine/edronax (I live in the UK)

It is possable that the lack of energy is caused by the celexa. I definately found that it made me tired.

Some ideas are:

reduce to 10mg and/or
add some endronax and/or
add some folic acid and/or
add some b12

Hehe, you gave yourself away when you said Cipramil!! I'm from Yorkshire btw.

What are you taking Cipramil for? Depression? Anxiety?

I found lofepramine (Gamanil) effective for depression. It didn't make me tired or apathetic. It didn't help my anxiety though.

When I took Celexa by itself (40 mg) it made me tired. But when I added Concerta (a form of Ritalin) that helped a lot. I was then able to lower the Lexapro to my current dose of 20 mg. I also take 72 mg Concerta and do not get tired.

Another option is to add Modafinil.

Thanks folks, for the suggestions. Sorry I haven't replied asap! I find it hard to find my posts and responses on this site.

Anyway I don't think its my nutritional status that is causing the tiredness, because I always take a high dose multivitamin and mineral. I also had a load of blood tests at my GPs (doctors) and they all came back okay, except my white blood cell count which is low, although just outside of normal.

I think I might ask the doc to let me try edronax/reboxetine which I have heard good things about. Although I have done that in the past and he told me that it was too new to try and then tried to persuade me I was aenemic, (hence the bloodtests) -- I knew I wasn't anemic because I like I said I take a high dose multivit/mineral.....anyway. I might try another GP(doc) and really really emphazise just how dehilibating it is to have no motivation and to want to sleep all the time! I go to bed at 8pm and struggle to get out of bed at 8.30am. Its horrible. And you just think its you and that you're being lazy and then the doc doesn't take you seriously.

By the way, I did a adult ADD test and I got 180 - to be ADD you needed at least 70! Maybe the sypmtoms of ADD are down to depression/anxiety.....I sometimes wish I could get myself some ritalin - to cope with the tiredess and ADD!

So Ed_uk - you live in Yorkshire! I'm a yorkshire lass too. I was born and brought up in York! Which I miss very much. Are there any posts related to reboxetine?

I didn't answer your question - unfortunately, depression and anxiety..... I don't like taking any meds, but when I stop, I'm fine for a while but then have a sort of episode and need to go back on them. I've been on prozac (I was just crazy on this, but that could be my system getting used to ssri's and it aggravated my anexity) and venlafaxine which was alright, but I didn't like the brain shivers. Cipramil has been the 'mildest' one for me and really helps the anxiety but not really the depression and has robbed me of energy.

~Thanks for the post.
I would love to try ritalin! I don't think my doc would presribe it - we get like, five minutes with the doc, who looks at you, and doesn't take you seriously. I see different docs but it doesn't help....maybe its just me. I think i will ask the health centre if they have a GP who specialises in mental health. I mean, my friend who has diabetes gets to see a specialist GP so why don't people with mental health difficulties get the same treatment? It really frustrates me how my mental health really really affects my life, but the NHS doesn't seem to really offer any help. I mean, if I had a broken arm etc (something physical) then there would be all kinds of help...... well I shouldn't complain - at least healthcare in the UK is free. I really really feel for the people who simply can't afford their meds in the US - I mean venlafaxine costs $140 a month over there! and it costed me like £6 (like is that ~$10?) a month. Anyway in case anyone was wondering Meri-Tuuli means Sea-Breeze in finnish....

Hi!

>Although I have done that in the past and he told me that it was too new to try.......

Edronax isn't really that new any more. Your GP was probably trying to cover up the fact that he hadn't heard of it LOL. It's very rarely prescribed.

>So Ed_uk - you live in Yorkshire!

I'm from West Yorkshire :-)

>Are there any posts related to reboxetine?

There are a few in the archives. Not many though - because it's not approved in the US.

Kind regards

Try taking it at bed time.

Cheers, I think I'll try that. I remember I only took it in morning because I got really bad insomnia on prozac, and the habit has stuck.
