I know that it's dangerous to do this but I think I have read of some cases where people have combined Nardil with an SSRI under strict supervision.
Has anyone on this board combined the two drugs and with what results?
Also, what's the washout period for coming of an SSRI and going onto Nardil?

Denise you have quite a few options to augment your Maoi with,but i really REALLY recomend DO NOT mess around with ssris and Maois!!!!PLEASE.
Maybe if you tell us what your getting from the Maoi,and what the problem is,i.e is it not lifting your depression,is it causing fatique,is it not helping anxiety etc etc,then we can recomend something.
There are quite a bit of nardil and maoi users here,so you have a good resource,i dont think any of them including myself would suggest an Maoi with an ssri.If you havent started it yet,id say lol try it first before augmenting it!
The washout period is i believe 4-6 weeks but someone else might know for sure.Unfortunaly the washout period is a little more neccsassry when going from an ssri to an maoi rather than vice versa.
Also there are meds,that even when you begin nardil you can take with it that can ease you through the wait period,(thanks chairman) one for example i was told about is carbbgoline.I believe you can also use CERTAIN tcas at the start,as well as certain stimulants such as modfanil has been used,as well as dexadrine.Just keep in touch with the group here step by step,however again i personaly would not in anyway use an ssri with an Maoi.
Oh and mood stablizers such as neurontion also have gone ok with nardil,so you will have safer much safer options.Good luck to you,and all who are just taking maois for the first time.

my doctor just told me that you can usually take an maoi after being off an ssri for two weeks. She said she wanted me to wait 3 weeks though just to be safe. I've been off zoloft for two weeks already so I really only have to wait a week. Also, prozac probably requires a longer washout because it's half-life is so much longer than the rest of the ssri's.

Denise, I think the impassioned pleas by others that you not try combining a SRI with an MAOI are warranted.I once attempted to add 12.5mg of Effexor to the 80mg of Parnate I was taking. Within 20 minutes, I was delerious and altered. My body temperature rose about a degree or so. I couldn't engage my muscles to sit upright or get out of bed. It took about an hour to recover. Could you imagine if I had taken 25mg or 37.5mg?
Enough said.

Ok,
Thanks to all of you for your responses, I sort of expected that reaction.
Anyway, the reason I asked, is that the Seroxat 40m which I've been taking for two years (starting to repeat myself) is no longr working. And I was thinking that when the Seroxat seemed to start working two years ago I had just previously tried a course of Nardil and then had a two week washout period.
I was thinking that maybe the Nardil (although I didn't like it particularly) did something to help the seroxat work a bit again. It was strange as well because when I started the Seroxat two weeks after finishing the Nardil I didn't experience any of the anxiety start up symptoms as I usually do.
So now I know the seroxat and the addition of remeron is not working, I was thinking of stopping both of them and then after a two week washout period (No way I'm waiting 3 weeks) taking the Nardil for just a month and then trying the Seroxat again as I did before :-) God I hate all this.
Either way not matter what I do with regards to the drugs, I'm definately going to try ECT.
