Anyone taking Seroquel? Need input

Posted by tampagirl70 on May 27, 2005, at 13:16:51

I've switched from risperdal to geodon and now to seroquel. Anyone taking it, please give me your input on it, good bad or in between. Thanks.

What are you taking it for? And what dose?

I take around 100-200 mgs for sleep and agitation. I don't think it's helping the agitation, but it's pretty good for sleep. If I took a higher dose it would probably help with agitation, but it would also make me too tired I imagine.

Basically I like it. I don't really have any side effects except tiredness. It's expensive though, which is one reason I might try to go off it. With my insurance I have to pay 40%.

I'm taking it for OCD, but I'm thinking my doctor might be thinking I'm borderline bi-polar. Have you taken either geodon or risperdal?

I'm starting it today at 50mg for 3 days, then 100mg for 3 days, then 200mg every day after that. Does that sound right?

I have taken and am currently taking Risperdal. Never took Geodon. Did those not work for you or were the side effects too bad?

That sounds about right. I don't really know anything about it's use for OCD. What bipolar-type symptoms do you have? It's possible that even a dose lower than 200 might help, but I think that the dose range for S is so huge, there is just no way to know how much any particular person might need. You just have to see how you feel at each dose.

I'm trying to tweak things with Seroquel and Risperdal. I really need something to calm my agitation. I can't take a high enough dose of S because it makes me too tired. But now Risperdal seems to be making me feel drugged too, so I don't know what to do.

I took .5mg risperdal and it made my mouth burn. It's not dry mouth, its something different than that. My tongue would burn and so would the roof of my mouth, and I know its the med because nothing else changed during the time I was taking it. The only complaint I have about the risperdal is the mouth burning thing and it also made me constipated.

The geodon does the same thing to my mouth and so far it also has made me constipated. One other thing I've noticed about it is that if I drink any caffeine it magnifies the effect of it. I usually drink caffeine free soda, but when I'm at a restaurant they usually don't have caffeine-free diet coke, so I drink the regular stuff. I'm all hyped up for a few hours after I drink it now that I'm taking the geodon.

Its done its job as far as the medicinal part of it, but the side effects for me just aren't tolerable.

Excellent med if you have trouble sleeping. Sleep agitation, lots of sweating ... which may or may not make you lose weight.

Aside from that, not much.

I guess it's just not good for anxiety/depression. And it didn't make me sleep. It put me to sleep but i was awake a few hours later. They kept upping the dose to 50mg twice at night. I woke up drunk and thrashing about in the bed so they discontinued it. Fondly, Phillipa

Neuroleptics are often used to augment SSRIs for OCD. Seroquel has a very wide range of therapeutic effect. From what I know, taking it alone, its not even considered "clinical" until about 400mg. But everyone is different and 200mg may suffice for you. As with any neuroleptic, the lowest effective dose is best, to avoid EPS and other effects.

I've taken it for a complex anxiety/ocd/somatiform/unexplained disorder for about 2 years, upping from 400mg to at one point 1200mg. I take 900mg at the moment. 800mg is considered the general top dose for normal cases.

I do experience EPS in terms of mild tremor and facial tremor; but its a tradeoff for what otherwise is a hideous condition. It is the mildest of antipsychotics in terms of 5HT->D2 activity except for Clozaril (which is a special one in a class of its own and is not normally taken unless one has extreme schizophrenia.)

Hope that helps
