Melanie:

First of all, I just want to say that upsets me that someone would call and do that to you. I mean, I guess I can just totally empathize because stuff like that has happened to me (crank calls, people be "mean" to me for no reason) and I just think: Why, why, why does this have to happen? Also, well, anyway, have you ever tried the approach that Jeffrey Schwartz recommends in his book "Brain Lock?" I have it posted above my computer, because that's where I work. I'll write it down for you here. Sometimes it works for me, sometimes not. Depends on how bad the panic/anxiety is. The approach, you say these things to yourself in your head:

1) Relable = "It's not me, it's just my OCD."
2) Reattribute = "It keeps bothering me because I have a medical condition; a chemical imbalance."
* Accept = It's not because of me, but despite me."
3) Refocus = Refocus my attention to another behavior, preferably something positive.
4) Revalue = "It's just a senseless obsession. It's a false message. I can ignore it."

Sorry if you've heard this before. I guess at the least, I can totally empathize with your obsessive ruminations and anxiety. I hate it too!

Good luck,
Chris

Actually I've never heard that and I'm going to give it a try. Thank you so much for your advise. I just feel like it sucks so bad to live like this always wondering what will trigger it again, but one day at a time... :-)

Melanie:

It certainly does "suck" to live like this. I can't even remember the last time I got a good night's sleep. My anxiety, obsessing, and panic are like constant companions, even if peripherally while on meds. I just wish someone could wave a magic wand over my brain and it could be "balanced." Wouldn't that be nice? Unfortunately, well, maybe someone day, medical science will figure all this out. At any rate, I totally feel for you and...hope that you are having a good day.
