My mom is schizophrenic, and it seems to run on my moms side of my family, so im worried ill get it.
I want to ask the schizoprehnics of the board, when did you become shcizophrenic, and what happened exactly?
My mom thinks certain people are the devil out to get her. She wont stop talking about it, even though shes on 2 neuroleptics. I know she doesnt know what shes talking about with this devil stuff, but I was wondering if anyone could give me inisght, as I am probably prone to this as it runs int he family, and knowledge is power.

Lunesta, Sorry your Thread got hijacked. I believe most people's symptoms appear in their late teens, and early twenties. I'm not schizophrenic, so I can't post a personal experience. I only know from the pts I tx'd when I worked in psych. Most have some sort of delusion. A lot of them are of religious themes. I'm sorry about your Mother, but it doesn't mean that you will become schizophrenic too. Fondly, Phillipa

I haven't really spoken to you before, but read a few of your last posts. Things don't seem to have been going well for you.
Have you been recently diagnosed with schiz? Is that why you have been away from the board?

You are right. Knowledge is power. While Psycho-Babble is a great place to gain knowledge, it can also stear you in the wrong direction. Are you living a large town/city? There are support groups for people who have parents with mental illness. How old are you? Actually, where do you live?
You are right that it does run in families. This mean you may (or may not) be predisposed to get it or some other form of mental illness. There are certain stressors that can bring it on if you are already predisposed such as: drug use, high levels of stress etc.
But as Phillipa pointed out, you are not going to get it just because it runs in the family. Do you know at what age your mom developed it?
