missed a dose of Celexa

Posted by Shortelise on February 28, 2005, at 0:18:29

this is the second time in two years I have forgotten a dose. Last time was a Christmas, and I got wierd, nauseated, anxious. I remembered about 14 hours late. Today I forgot for 24 hours and was just feeling really off, not sick physically, but just anxious and strange. I took one right away and it should kick in soon.

What is odd about this, and I wonder if anyone has anything to say about this, I was having these whacky feelings, free-floating anxiety, some anger, etc. and was trying to deal with the feelings, couldn't figure out if I should go into them, feel them, or try to supress them, and now I feel fairly nuts. I rarely feel nuts.

Ugh. It would be nice if someone could give me a little comfort. Maybe I need to go and ask my husband for some.

Thanks. I guess maybe I am partly just using this as a way to think right now.

just hang in there. was the full dose is back in your system, you will slowly get back to a baseline feeling of normality where you can process the feelings with a normal sense of control

Well I don't know if this brings you any comfort, but that's EXACTLY how I felt on Lexapro/celexa.

I felt that way after the medication kicked in 2-3 weeks into it. VERY bizarre, anxious, internally restless and just generally like I was losing my mind.

So I imagine in can also make one feel that way if they miss a dose.

sorry you had to feel that. I know how miserable it is and it's very hard to describe to people.

Thanks to both of you for responding.

Spriggy, did it eventually work for you or did you change meds? It sounds like you did change meds. Which are you taking now?

How different we all are!

THe first weeks I was on it, I felt wonderful. My mood was so light, I felt so happy, it was a miracle. It lasted about a month and I enjoyed every moment of it. Then I settled into just feeling better, not as anxious, not as ... intense.

I feel better now, though it's again a hard time for me in the grand cycle of things.

*sigh*

Thanks again for your comforting messages, Spriggy and Bart.

Well shorte,
I actually had to stop the Lexapro/Celexa. I had a bad reaction- which I've had to other SSRi's so at this point, they are trying to "figure out me out."

My reaction to SSRI's could possibly mean I have a mild form of Bipolar (my father is bp) Or it could just mean they don't need to touch my seratonin unless they want me wiggin' out big time. ROFL

So... at this point, I'm only on low dose Klonopin until they can decide what to do with me.

It was interesting to watch a 30 year neuro/psych doctor put his face in his hands with confusement over me.. I thought, " Okaaaay.. this can not be a good sign that I am confusing him so much." ROFL

He was nice but admitted he was kind of perplexed as to what road to go down with me. He said, since I am obviously depressed, I need something for it but "what?" Cymbalta might cause the same reaction, Wellbutrin induces more anxiety, etc...

So... tomorrow I have an appointment and will likely end up on Lamictal (a mood stabilizer) to see if that alone helps me.

So.... you see... don't mind me. I'm one of those freaks of nature. LOL

This may not be of comfort to you, but it does illustrate how different everyone is in their response to meds, or how different our conditions are. I took Celexa for a year (20mg/day dose) and frequently missed dosing. I never noticed anything when I missed a dose. In fact, when I quit Celexa, I didn't really notice much of anything since it took like a month to get out of my system. Could it be that your anxiety is just...manifesting itself, mentally, you know, not physically, but as a result of the whole "panic" of missing a dose? Sorry if I'm off base. Just a thought

Chris, my T said that the half life of Celexa is really short. He's the one who explained that what I was feeling is normal withdrawal, and that I would have it so quickly. I thought it was all in my head, which he was very quick to assure me was not the case.
