Strattera inertia

Posted by retrojen on January 11, 2005, at 20:49:04

Before I got on any meds, I did a search, and found that p-babble folks have more experience and knowledge than anywhere else on the web.

After lurking awhile, I still find that to be true. Could I get some feedback about some Strattera effects?

So far I've taken 4 doses of 25 mgs each. First dose was a relief for 1/2 a day- haven't felt so relaxed and in the moment in years. Then the fatigue hit and I napped.

That evening I stupidly had two drinks in 5 hours- it was my b-day.

Woke up miserable- huge crushing headache and nausea. Took my meds anyway with food- but threw up 5 hours later.

Days three and four I have become virtually inert I've slowed way down- thinking nonexistent for most part. Mostly I've been a lump on the couch, watching the world go by.

Some people say that it's better to dose PM rather than AM. Might that help in preventing getting zombified?

I'm supposed to go up to 40 mgs after two weeks.

Does my zombie state indicate that I'm getting too much or too little of it? Should I stick it out and see if I wake up in a few days before switching to PM? Do immediate fairly severe effects like I've had mean anything in terms of long term efficacy.

I know quite a few people from here were using it in 2002-2003. Are people still taking it? Did people start out like I have and find it helpful over all?

For the most part, I find it to be great for calming but ineffective for concentration and motivation.

Thanks for any info you can provide....

Jennifer

Strattera is an odd drug. I took it for awhile-maybe 2 1/2 months. Here is how it worked for me-

The first few days I took it at night and it made me sleep like a rock but I awakened early and did ok.
We upped the dose about every 4-5 days. When I got in abou the 40mg range to 60mg it was great. Total motivation and energy. Incredible focus!
this lasted about 2 weeks. Then it settled down and I felt calm focused and awake. I was patient and just felt....I guess even and normal.

Then I just could not fingure out the proper amount to take. More-less. I tried it all. I ended feeling like I could just sit in one place and stare at the wall-I was too calm. But not tired.

When you up the dose expect that it will make you tired at first. This usually passed and strangely enough will become energizing.

I wish I could have figured it out because when it worked it worked great!

Good luck!
Kaye

I am now off Effexor and Prozac as well (my transition AD...)

I have decided to try Strattera again to see if it works better for me without an SSNRI in the mix.

I have tried in the morning.

Should I dose at night?

I have been taking 50mg of Seroquel at night for sleep.

Thanks!

Tony

Hey Tony!
My best advise with the Strattera is to start with a low dose and increase it s l o w l y. Have patience with it. Did it make you sleepy taking it in the morning?

Everyone is different but it made me sleepy the first few days at a when I increased the dosage then it was energizing.

Take Care!
Kaye

Kaye:

I am only taking two capsules in the morning at this time. Not sedating. Since Strattera is really an AD, I'm hoping that it will work for both depression and ADHD.
