NMDA antagonists WHO CAN HELP ??

Posted by linkadge on December 31, 2004, at 19:15:05

Of all the drugs I cannot figure out, NMDA antagonists are among the foremost.

For starters I keep reading that NMDA angagonists are notorious for causing psychosis. But lithium, has antipsychotic properties and is a potent NMDA antagonist.

The other issue refers to neuroprotection. Some sources say that NMDA antagonists are neuroprotective, but then other sources say they are neurotoxic ie:

Can somebody please clarify for me what is what ??

The drug - "Namenda" is a partial (non competative) NMDA antagonist currently under studies for so many diseases (organic and mental) that I can't even list them all. It has a good saftey profile as well. Google search or groups, or boards will provide lots of information on Namenda.

I would suggest augmentation or a trial of it for certain conditions.

It has cured or remissed people with fibromyglia according some reports.

It is currently approved for Alzhierms , recently gaining asd the #1 treatment.

As far as phsycosis or schizophrenia, I am fairly certain that genetics combined with chronic viral or bacteral infections normally in humans disrupts the brain in time causing these things.

I know considerable information on NMDA, GABA, DOPAMINE and NOREP connections in the brain and suspected disorder causes. babblemail or respond and i will try to answer 1 question @ a time.

Hope this helps.

Hi Link,

I imagine it depends very much on dose. Look at dextromethorphan (DXM) for example, at low cough-supressant doses it's generally well-tolerated with few side effects... but if you drink the bottle you're in for a shock.

See... http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/dxm/dxm.shtml

Read the 'Experiences'
