Never heard of that - especially since it's something our bodies have naturally.Maybe someone on the Alternative Board might have something more to add about this.

Yeah, I'm not sure how that could even be possible considering that it is a substance that your body has anyway.
Did he say this because you had some particular reaction to Melatonin, or did he say it b/c he was trying to persuade you to take something (like Ambien) that requires a prescription? Doctors tend to be the most ignorant people around when it comes to treatments, like melatonin, that do not require a prescription.

I can't see how it could be, although you may have hypersensitivity to oral melatonin. There's not usual very much of it outside of specialized portions of the brain.
Could you describe what symptoms you get?

I have..Higher levels of melatonin (via supplements) can worsen asthma (increases inflammation)

There is one sub-category of asthmatics, the nocturnal asthmatics, where melatonin hypersecretions is associated with reductions in forced expiratory volume. Perhaps it is this special subgroup that draws this attention?
