LUVOX, anyone on it?

Posted by Keko on October 21, 2004, at 18:53:39

My pdoc suggested I try Luvox next. Lexapro didn't work out for me, kept getting spacey a few hours after I took it. Darned! I have anxiety/depression and OCD, what a combo.

Have you tried any other SSRI's apart from Lexapro. The problem with Luvox is that the withdrawal symptoms tend to be more intense than with the other SSRIs because of its short half-life.

SSRIs are indicated for your symptoms, and they all do kind of go together. OCD is considered to be primarily an anxiety related disorder. As for Luvox, I have a comparison chart, which seems to be fairly accurate and based on a broad spectrum of knowledge/input, that lists Luvox as the most nauseating, constipating, and sedating SSRI. Perhaps this is why it doesn't seem to be prescribed much anymore; although, your doctor may have a legitimate reason for thinking it may be particularly well suited to your situation based on some past experience.

Thanks for your responses. Lexapro made me too *high* even at an extremely low dose (less than 5mg) - Celexa made me too sleepy - I'm allergic to Prozac - I was on Zoloft for a few years and it pooped out-- so now he is suggesting another SSRI because I don't want to take an SSRI/norep combo like Effexor. Like so many others here, I don't know what to do. So Luvox is his next choice, but if it has nauseating side effects and causes fatigue I won't take it. Why do we have to experiment so much - depression/anxiety is the pits.

Hello..
If you're certain you want to stick with an SSRI, then there's Paxil(paroxetine) as well as Luvox. Both drugs are known for causing worse withdrawal symptoms than other SSRIs. You won't find out whether you like Luvox unless you try it though!

Exactly, and what's funny is that Effexor is not on the "bad withdrawal list" of SSRI's because it is suppose to be an SNRI and Paxil gets a bad rap.

Stopping Paxil was no problem compared to stopping Effexor for me and stopping Luvox was not a problem at all for me.

I guess half life doesn't exactly mean how nasty the discontinuation will be.
