Adderall XR Users Please READ!

Posted by becksA on October 17, 2004, at 21:25:28

I take 60mg once at 7 AM when I leave for work. I battle depression, and this seems to help alleviate this, and make me much more upbeat, and social....I notice that it starts to twindle around lunchtime, and then it's pretty much fully gone by mid afternoon. Anybody that takes Adderall XR, what is your dosing schedule? I think I would like to take a second dose mid afternoon.
Thanks

I take 5 mg Adderall XR upon waking with club soda, and then another 5mg around 4-5 hours later. I find I crash regardless of the second dose around 7 hours after waking, but if I have a short nap I'm ready to go. I think it's basically my body getting exhausted from the stimulant. I've only been Adderall for 2 weeks though so I'm still working things out.

I may switch to dexedrine due to adderall inducing a bit of social anxiety I've found

I too had a similar problem with the XR version of adderall, and have since switched to the immediate release version. (Which FYI is also generic and much much, MUCH cheaper!) I was taking XR 25mg, and crashing early afternoon; I now take 10mg 3x daily and get full coverage through the day.

As for optimist: Have you heard that dexedrine causes less social anxiety, or do you know this for a fact? I have recently been fighting severe anxiety and love to make that change if it would help.

Thanks

Matt

Matt, I've heard that dexedrine causes less social anxiety mostly as anecdotal from this site. The levo-amphetamine in Adderall is supposed to be the cause of the anxiety due to it's pro peripheral nervous system stimulation as opposed to dextro-amphetamine in dexedrine which works more so on the CNS.

Adderall supposedly causes more anger, irritability, and fast heartrate issues as well.

It's really a matter of preference. Supposedly dexedrine spansules create more of a drop off than Adderall XR, so some people find Adderall smoother in that regard.

It's worth a try to experiment anyways. There's been some rumours that Dexedrine is actually a better drug but Adderall has been marketed better and has better options in terms of pill sizes (5,10, 20, 30).

Wow, this is so interesting. Ive been having taking 60 mg of adderal - 30 in the AM and 30 around 3PM, and have not had any real results to speak of. However, just the other day as an experiment I took all 60 mg together (XR) and literally for the first time in over a year, had a sex drive. My husband actually drove home from work in the middle of the day:) I see my doctor on Thursday - do you think I need to have my dosage increased? I feel like doctors are already so skiddish about prescribing it. All i know is it's the first time I have felt good in a LONG time.

I take 20MG of Adderall ER when I wake up (varies between 8am - 10am), and I take another 20 MG in the afternoon (1pm - 3pm). It seems to be working well for me.

Please be careful- Of course you've "never felt better" at double dose ! Adderall XR is speed, please be careful not to abuse it- you'll become a meth junkie rather than a fellow mental health sufferer.

Adderall XR scares me. My son is on it and he suffers from that "crash" you're all talking about. And being irratible, hostile, et cetera, takes on a whole new meaning when my son is only 13 with ADHD and has not yet learned how to control himself. Problem is, if he's not on meds during the day, he is disruptive in class and the school district has threatened to expell him (they use nicer terms, but we all know what they mean). I rather he not have to touch the stuff.

BE careful, ....please
