I've had enough!

Posted by saw on October 1, 2004, at 5:25:24

My pdoc told me two months ago that if I did not stick it out, she couldn't help me. I assured her that I really want to get better and that I *would* stick it out. I could see she doubted my "staying power". Well, two months later, one month on 75mg and the other on 150mg of Effexor, I want out!!! I cannot take anymore weight gain. I am sick and tired of getting frights and yawning my head off. I am tired of the brain fog and forgetfulness and pounding head. I'm so forgetful right now I can't remember all the other SE's I'm getting.

I have had enough. I would rather be depressed and thin. Something has got to give. I can't go on like this.

A chocolate a day might have more effect than Effexor right now. I probably wouldn't even gain as much weight.

Thanks for letting me vent
Sabrina

Sabrina, if you can, please stay with it. It took me an awfully long time to feel the full benefits of effexor - and as I and others have suggested, maybe adding something else might help in the weight gain department? It's a shame that some doctors dismiss out of turn the importance of our self image and the effect of meds on our weight. Some suggested adjuncts are buspar, topomax, and wellbutrin.

Keep venting!!!! Eat those carrots!!

I had hell on effexor from the day I started to the day I quit, not only was it a phsical nightmare but a psychological nightmare as well.

It wasn't till we changed to celexa that things finally started to improve.

Go with your gut, 2 months is plenty of time to know weather this med is going in the right direction, or the wrong direction.

"Your mileage may vary" celexa made me cry even harder. Effexor saved my life.
Go figure.

I see your point. I guess what I meant to say is that you really need to use your intuition now and again. The meds to work but the doctors don't know you better than you know yourself.

I think two months on a med is long enough if your side-effects are not abating.
If you feel they are getting a bit better, then it might be worth sticking with it....but if they are the same or worse, try something else. If nothing has improved by your next Pdoc app't , tell her you've been patient enough and need to try something else or a combo.
I agree with Linkadge, you get to know your own body and it's responses to certain drug-types.
Take care,
Jas

As with partlycloudy,It's taken a loooong time for me to get the full benefit of effexor. The yawning is a pain, I know. It still bugs me. Objectively, I am doing much better on effexor. I think it's been about 5 or 6 months to get full benefit, and it still keeps getting better and the side effects are much more tollerable. I figure, the longer you are on it, the longer your body has to adjust. My sensitive system seems to take a very long time to adjust, which may be why this med is actually working since I have stuck with it for some time. Good luck, whatever you decide

Thank you everyone

I will definitely be asking for a combo or for a change in a couple of weeks. I don't know what is left to try as I have been on about 15 different meds in the past. But, we'll see, and I'll keep you posted.
