Does anyone actually feel good on ritalin??

Posted by mike lynch on August 19, 2004, at 13:01:47

I use to take adderall and I remember feeling absolutely fantastic when it was in my system...as Ritalin and Adderal both raise dopamaine i'd figure Ritalin would have a similar effect.. The results concerning focus were good...but I got this wierd "buzz" like caffinated feeling...something that although tolerable is a hurdle when it comes to enjoying life. Does anyone else experience this? Do you think i'll just get use to it..?.

I usually feel great on focalin...and I heard focalin and ritalin are closely related...but they seem so much differnt....

Ritalin puts me to sleep - at least in the small dosage that I tried. I haven't tried Adderall yet but probably will eventually. Got to find something that will help me concentrate.

i dont think it's just ritlan. the buzz seems to from most of these uplifting; alert; energy drugs.

i can't figure it out, it seems like no matter how much concerta or dexidrene i take i don't feel any different. as you know these are similar to ritlan an adderal. I don't get buzz or anything. wellbutrin gives me that electric shock speeded feeling.

regarding the buzz or electric shock feeling, i feel it daily. I feel 1000% better on meds then not meds. however i constantly think about the word "normal" as a desire to feel.

Does anybody ever feel normal on any of these drugs? my definition of normal is just an all around balanced physical and emmtional feeing.

some people take one med to give them energy. with the extra energy they have anxiety to follow by taking a klon or xanax.

it looks like everyone is trying to find a nice balance.

I have taken ritalin for many years. I usually need to take klonapin for the associated anxiety. It also stimulates my speech to the point that at times I am obnousious. I have no control over this. I have decreased it from 100mg day to about 40. But the net effect is I have little energy and less mood elevation. If I do not take it as I sometimes do I stay in bed all day. So I have found a comprimise. My pdoc says there are several other stimulants that have greater potential for mood elivation. I have tried many and for other physical reasons am unable to take them. My advice, for what its worth, is if it helps at least until you find something else to replace it (the stimulant) why suffer more than you have to.

I want to apologize for my previous post. I just reread it and it didn't say anything to help you at all.

Have you tried or thought of adding something slightly sedating to get rid of that buzz like a benzo? Or would a benzo adversely effect your concentration and defeat the purpose? Possibly something alternative could help in this case.(Maybe Larry might have some ideas...)

(Why did you stop taking the Adderall and the focalin if they worked so well for you? Will your current doctor not prescribe them?)

-K

Adderall gave me a horrible crash... it made me obssesive and I had a tendency to ruminate negative thoughts while on it..in turn this led to depression..or at least attributed to it.. Focalin didn't last long at all..it seemed to last only 3 hours for me..and it made me incredibly jittery and anxious.. Ritalin as of the second day, seems to be improving as how I feel on it...I still don't enjoy the feeling but it seems to be a lot better then it was before..ritalin also has a bad crash for me...that lasts about 3-4 hours after school ( I usually sleep through it) I should take it again to prevent crash...but I only like taking it when I really need it..I'll talk to my p-doc for suggestions..

There are things people on this board take to prevent tolerance. I wonder if any of those would help prevent or minimize crashes.
