Hi, I have had two periods in four years due to my need to take Sulpiride 600mg every day which has elevated my prolactin. Is this dangerous? I wouldn't mind THAT much but I feel weight gain, low libido and galactorrhea are all linked. My doc says it's ok but can be bad for bone-density if I don't do high-impact exercise but I read that it is high risk to have one's periods stop from anti-psychotics.
Any answers?Thanks so much,
Lyn

Being a guy, I don't know too much about female problems, but I think Osteoprosis & Infertility is the worst that you can expect. If the problem is bothersome, or you'd like your cycle back, I would consider trying out the atypical AP's like Zyprexa, Seroquel, Geodon or Abilify. Weight gain can be a problem with the first two, so you might like to try the last two. Amisupride & Risperdal might be worth trying too, but they have a tendency to raise prolactin also.
Cheers,
Panda.

the only atypical AP besides clozapine that is said not to raise prolactin is Seroquel.

Thanks to both of you for your advice and suggestions. I have started taking Agnus Castus today to help regulate prolactin release. Fingers crossed it will work!
I tried to come off Sulpiride onto Abilify and it was a nightmare of anxiety and hallucinations so I am staying on Sulpiride for the next eight months, regardless of high prolactin.> the only atypical AP besides clozapine that is said not to raise prolactin is Seroquel.
This is the end of the thread.
