Tegretol and Nardil- Djmmm or anyone!!!!

Posted by ace on May 27, 2004, at 23:08:17

Am i correct in believing Tegretol with Nardil has the following effects

1. Nardil increases plasma levels of Tegretol

2. Nardil blood levels decrease with Tegretol

3. Zyprexa blood levels decrease with Tegretol

BUT- i will only be on 500-700mg Tegretol- surel this lower dose will not cause too much lowering off Nardil and Zyprexa. And it is quite possible that it Tegretol might not even cause any decrease in Nardil and Zyprexa levels...

am i correct...

i know djmmm took tegretol + nardil- i dont think he mentioned noticing any difference...

are you out there djmmm!?

BTW, I have now started Tegretol!!!

Ace
Nardil 105mg
Zyprexa 2.5mg
Tegretol 400mg

Hi Ace,

Why AED's? If Zyprexa goes close, why not try Risperdal, Abilify or Seroquel as they may be even better. Keep an eye on your glucose levels too.

Cheers,
Panda.

I don't think that there is a significant metabolic interaction between Nardil and Tegretol... typically, tegretol effects the plasma levels of MOST other drugs it's combined with. Tegretol can even induce its own metabolism. I think the two meds are contraindicated because both drugs increase serotonin.

Keep in mind that since Nardil is an irreversible MAOI, as soon as adequate MAO is inhibited the drug is designed to be lowered and decreased to a maintenance dose. With this being said, a lowering of serum levels is not as significant a problem as it is with most other drugs...again, I don't think that there is much of an interaction anyway.

Tegretol DOES induce the metabolism of Zyprexa (lowering serum levels of zyprexa)
