How much is to much Lexapro?

Posted by lelebug on May 19, 2004, at 22:11:35

I started my lexapro in January at 10mg. I have since upped it to 20mg. But I believe it needs to be upped again. How many mg's of Lex can you take. The nurse tried to tell me you could only go to 20mg. But that made no sense to me. I know it needs to be upped again, and if it can't be upped I need to know what else I can try. Please let me know if anyone is on anything higher than 20mg and if you know how much is the safest amount to work up to. I really appreciate all your answers and help.

best wishes

I was on 25mg of Lex at one time and I believe that I have heard of people on 30mg , maybe higher. That nurse propbably did'nt know the real deal.As with all these meds, there are *always* exceptions. I remember when 80mg of Prozac sounded like a lot but now know that there are cases of 100 to 120mg of Prozac being prescribed!

Thanks for the feedback Snapper. I will talk to the Dr again. I haven't been able to get into a Psychiatrist to get a good mixture of meds to handle my bipolar issues. I have an appointment on the 7th. Do u (or anyone else) know what the doc might perscribe to me? I am currently on 300mg of Wellbutrin 20mg of Lexapro and .25mg of Xanax. So far most everthing is handled in my case except a mood stabilizer. I definitely need that but have not been able to be properly medicated as of yet.

Your nurse is incorrect. I have been on 30 mg Lexapro for about 6 months. When I switched from 20 to 30, it made a big positive difference. My doctor had suggested going from 20 to 40, but I decided to try 30 first. If I ever need more in the future, I would not hesitate going to 40. I have read posts from others who do good on 40.
