I have severe libido/sexual dysfunction issues. I spoke with my doc today, and she suggested I take a 1 to 2 day drug holiday before I plan to make love. Now everthing I've read suggestions that you can't do that because of the unpleasant results. Has anyone tried this, and if so, I have two questions: 1. Do you NOT experience unpleasant side effects? 2. Does it increase your libido and sexual performance, i.e., orgazims? I hope some of you out there respond an enthusiastic YES!!!! Thank you.

you shouldn't have a problem skipping a day of the effexor. two days will probably give you some slight withdrawl effects. it's all individual.
I'd try the one day holiday and see how it goes. As a second option, consider halfing the dose the first day and then skipping it the second.
For me, skipping a dose for a day or two did bring about a moderate increase in libido and less sexual dysfunction, but the effect wasn't drastic.
Other options would be augmentors...wellbutrin, yohimbine, or periactin.

I wouldn't do that at all. Much better to add something else as jrbecker suggests. I use Remeron myself, it doesn't help with libido, but it does help me with anorgasmia. Periactin does look like an intriguing option as I think you can take it prn.

periactin (cyproheptadine) is an "old-school" anti-histamine. It was used to treat hayfever and allergies back in the day before partial histamine blockers (e.g, claritin) came along with less sedation.
the good thing about periactin is that unlike other activating sexual augmentors like wellbutrin or yohimbine, you won't have a problem going to sleep afterwards. In fact, it's quite sedating, so you can be assured of it. It has a relatively short half-life so you're not likely to have a nextday hangover effect.

Yes - I can take a 2 day holiday with no problems, and at the end of 2 days, I can climax again. Good advise from your doc.

I take 150mg of Effexor XR a day. Good luck.

Guess what gang? I didn't take my Effexor this morning, and around noon I took 75 mgs of Wellbutrin that I had my doc call in to my pharm yesterday. I was working at home today, and I thought I started feeling sexual stirrings. I contacted my partner via e-mail and told him this. He came home early. We made love and I achieved an orgasim!!! I haven't had one in weeks. I realize this is probably more information that any of you want to know, but I'm such a happy girl. And I thought if this helps me, it may help others. Thank you so much for your input. It was invaluable!
