Has anyone experience that Lexapro is not as effective the week before your period? I have been on it almost a month and I feel good with no side-effects whatsoever but every month the week before my period I get obsessive thoughts and an increase in axiety. My doc suggested taking 15mg during that week and then going back down to 10 after its over. Anyone else experience this?

yes I do have that problem with Paxil and my doctor just up the meds to 60 mgs from 40 hoping it will take care of the problem she says that some women experience this before they start i'm hoping this will take care of the problem. I was on Lexapro for 7 weeks and it did not totally take the anxiety away so i went back on paxil and it has been working until this past week just before my period and it seem like it wasnt working as well so i'm hoping this is going to work to.

I have also noticed an increase in anxiety right before and during my period. I haven't talked with my doc about this yet. This month, I cut my 20 mg tablet in two, and took an extra 10mg during my PMS days. This helped.

Hi Nicolet,
I know exactly what you mean. Every month around the time of my period, the Lexapro just stops working. It's gotten to the point where I dread having my period because I know it means a return of my anxiety and depression symptoms. A lot of women on Lexapro have this problem. I'm still not sure what to do about it, but would really love to find a solution.

> K.Have you tried upping the dose? Like I said before my pdoc told me to increase from 10 to 15 during the week before my period and a for the fist days during and then go back down. So far this is the second day on 15 and I seem to be fine just a little spaced out but I suspect thats just from the increase in the lex and I have to get used to it. My pdoc said ususally once you get your period the symptoms will disappear its really the week and a half beore..hence the name PMS. Good Luck

I have to take a half of a tab increase for the periods too.
