Anyone still take Serzone? Need help soon..

Posted by florence on April 7, 2004, at 22:04:21

Wondering if anyone takes Serzone. It worked for 1 month and then I got my period and it stopped having any effect.(that was 6 yrs ago) Now I am in menopause and desperate and frustrated by all the fatigue (in bed for 3 mos) What drugs are similar to Serzone? I have probably already tried some of them with no success.

I took Serzone for many years. I'm taking Lexapro now. The Lexapro helps me with my anxiety and depression. I'm taking 10 mg of Lexapro a day. Not sure if you have already tried Lexapro.

Hi witzkey:
In my understanding, Lexapro is 'refined form of Celexa' that is one of potent SSRIs.
In my case, those potent SSRIs does not suit to the chemical of my brain,.... simply my system is 'intolerable' to SSRIs, although some of potent SSRIs have more efficacy or as similar as Serzone.
Then, if there is/are any 'unfortunate' history/incidents regarding any of SSRIs, such as Zoloft, Effexor and more to list, ... then this med. 'Lexapro' might NOT be a good choice.

Serzone is an unique AD med., thus plain frankly, it might NOT be easy to find the alternative to Serzone.

Hi
Have you ever tried Tricyclic AD's? I can't tolerate the SSRI's or alternatives like Wellbutrin. i get angry, hostile, anxious, even on low doses. You might want to try a tricyclic like Nortriptyline or amitriptyline...They take a little longer to kick in, but eventually, one might be a good alternative to Serzone.
Hope you feel better
Chloe

HG,
I'm not an expert on the subject of antidepressants. I'm saying it worked for me, and
it's worth a shot. Anything is better than dealing with that nagging depression.

Hi:
As for the alternative to Serzone, ... there are two different approaches, ... one for older form of TCI med. as 'Chloe' quotes, and other for new/modern med. approach as 'witzkey' suggesting.
Both sounds like excellent alternatives to Serzone.
Just in case, ... I did copy both of alternative meds., TCI meds. and Lexapro on 'Word,' as I normally do for the sake of future references.
I also believe other folks being on Serzone would get a benefit of having read this thread, because in Canada, this med., Serzone was already discontinued late last year.
