Has anybody had any success with Efexor for helping OCD?? Would you be kind enough to tell me your story?! Pretty please!
Iv been on 75mg for nearly 3 weeks. Its v.difficult to assess how Im feeling as Iv come off prozac to try Efexor, so obviously that is now leaving my body.
Its just, I absolutely cannot STAND the continual whoring in my head. I dont have any particular rituals. I did when I was younger, but now its mainly obsessive thoughts. I obsess about anything and EVERYTHING! Prozac was super, but didnt do enough for my depression. I really thought I had beaten some of my obsessive tendencies, but then this morning I wake up, after months of being able to dress like a NORMAL human being, and suddenly I was faced with that age-old dilemma, "GREEN TOP OR BLUE TOP????????"! It was a NIGHTMARE, as you can imagine Im sure :) Its so hard though to be back here, sat in front of my wardrobe, obsessing about all the particular combinations of outfits and bits n bobs. And today for example, an ex-boyfriend wanted to meet up. But rather than have a little think and then just go with what I felt, I must have spent the ENTIRE DAY obsessing on the ins and outs of what was the *right* thing to do. And trust me, this wasnt your normal "ex angst"!
Anyway, Im completely off the topic. Its just, I hate so much being back like this. All I want more than anything is for this Efexor to have some effect. But Im worried that because Im STILL not experiencing any of "the good stuff", its not going to work.
Could anybody give me some details? Ok, my questions...
- Has this AD actually worked for anyone?
- Has anybody tried it AS WELL AS prozac, and could give me a comparrison of the two??
- If it does work, does it take a long while for the obsessing to stop? How long did it take for other people?
- What is the theraputic dose? Will it not take any effect until I go higher than 75mg. For some reason my GP doesnt want to put me higher than 150mg, but he is refering me to a pdoc, so maybe they will be more inclined to do so. I wonder why my GP wont, anyone have any ideas?Ok, and asides from the OCD thing, has anyone got any good stories about Efexor? Im interested in ECT (not for me to have, just interested in how it works, etc). Has anyone here had this? And if so, whats it like?
Oh look at me! Basically Im just hoping like mad that someone will burst in and yell "Dont worry! Efexor is the best! It is superduper! You will stop obsessing very very soon! Yippy!".
Ok. Eeek, Im even obsessing over this stupid issue now! Sorry for driving everyone crazy! My family nearly had to gag me today to stop me jabbering on! And sorry for any OCD sufferers, it always makes me worse, watching other obsessives run around in these circles!

I don't know if I can solve your dilemma, but I can tell you a little about myself with effexor. I have been on effexor for a little over a year and have stopped about 2 weeks ago and using prozac now to help curb the side effects of the effexor. Effexor worked well for me, but I suppose I have GAD and not OCD. It did take several weeks before I was back to normal with 75mg of effexor. I did, however, go up to 150mg and I have to say it worked very well. My desire to stop was that my heart rate remained high around 100 while resting. Now that I am on the prozac I can't really tell that I am taking anything except for the fact that my libido is lost. John

I didn't think it was too bad for OCD, similar to Zoloft. After spending years alternating between those two drugs, I gained some insights into my OCD and find that it is permanently reduced but not completely eliminated. Still, it is far less debilitating than it was. I'm mainly a "checker" BTW--in particular, making sure doors are locked and things are turned off. I also have a few perfectionist issues reminiscent of your wardrobe dilemma.
