how does wellbutrin make you feel?

Posted by 1980Monroe on February 3, 2004, at 19:51:49

Hi, im starting wellbutrin in a couple weeks after i visit my pdoc. Im taking it both for ADHD and depression. I take adderall, which is amphetamine and helps alot in concentrating, but im switching too wellbutrin. Does anyone have any experices with how it makes you feel? - ive read at doses 400 mg and higher causes mild Amphetamine-like stimulatory. Adderall gives me a feeling of well-being and motivation, i was just wondering if wellbutirn would do the same? Any feed back is appreiciated. Thanks

Hi:
In my experience of taking WB sr for over three years, ... it's a good AD med. However, I've been having a problem of indigestion that seems to get from taking WB. Then, if you have already 'stomach problem,' be cautious to take in the first place. In my case, indigestion flares up once awhile, ... not everyday's thing, but still annoying, ... for that I posted somewhere here this morning.
In my opinion, in comparison to 'real' ADD med., Adderall, WB is weaker in efficacy if you have ADD, but it also has a good property of efficacy for depressive side, for that I believe your pdoc. rxed WB, while Adderall is to be only ADD, no-effectiveness to depression.
In regard to dosage, around 300-350 mg. is 'safe place,' but some of folks is tolerable more than 400 mg., even few saying around 600 mg. that is way over recommended dosage, as we all know.
That's all I know about WB, then the rest is all up to you!
H.G.

Bupropion is like dysphoric sudafed compared to amphetamine. Unless there is a clear indication to switch, DON'T.

Well im really not switching, for a while i thought i was, but my doc recommended both meds. Wellbutrin makes you feel that bad? i thought it would give a slight feeling of well-being since in blocks the reuptake of dopamine and noradrenaline. Is it better at higher doses? Thanks for any input

Last visit to my pdoc, I told the doc that Adderall is not helping me focus at all, so he added Wellbutrin XR 30 mg. So far, the wellbutrin has helped with overall feeling of being overwhelmed, but the combo of the two has still done nothing for my inattentiveness.

I have no side effects from Wellbutrin. Overall is very positive for me.

At 450mg XL daily, I feel more awake and alert, though not euphoric by any means. It feels like a calmer caffeine buzz to me. My scalp kinda tingles at peak concentration (~7 hours in).

Monroe- I was under the wrong impression. I thougt you were switching. Although results vary, Wellbutrin is very good at fighting depression. Definitely give it a try. You want to start at a low dose. Maybe 100 or 200 mg per day. Then go up if needed.

I have been on 300 mg of WB for 4 months. I love it. Sometimes I might have trouble sleeping, but other than that I haven't had any negative side effects. It has helped A LOT with my depression. I am also on 10mg of Lexapro. If you are looking at adding this for depression it's been great for me. Good luck!

IME, Wellbutrin was motivativing, but did not have a "high" feeling like amphetamine. It also was quite good at increasing anxiety levels.

Nomfensimine (Merital), a dopamine reuptake inhibitor, was much better at making you feel good and helped with social phobia too.

The FDA banned it in 1985 :(

Of course, why would we want antidepressants that actually elevate mood? Then we'd have a sexually-driven, happy, slim population that could find joys in other things besides material consumption, thus lowering the amount the IRS takes in every year.

My psychopharmacology professor told me that the overarching reason the illegal drugs are illegal is because there ain't no such thing as a high taxpayer ...

I am taking Wellbutrin for my depression (I am bipolar) and have been on 200mg since November. It saved my life, let me tell you. I wouldn't go back to the Effexor or change a thing.

But that is just me.

Good luck.
