Posted by crazychickuk on August 9, 2003, at 14:27:53

Hi all this question sint for me it is for my freind:

She is 32 years old and few yrs back she was taking effexor just at 35mg for mild depression, and one night she abused it by taking 4 and a half of them ever since she has felt very funny? could it be seritonin syndrome?
Thanx

Is she still taking Effexor? How much?

Most people taking Effexor for major depression take 150mg or higher. I took 300mg and did not have the problem your friend describes. It is doubtful that she experienced serotonin syndrome from ingesting 150mg. This syndrome disappears immediately when the drug is discontinued.

Whatever it is that troubles your friend, it surely isn't serotonin syndrome. That is an acute, emergent (same root meaning as emergency) condition. It would have been harsh, and it would have happened two years ago.

I can't think of a link between the Effexor and your friend's feeling unwell all this time.

Sorry.

I still have occasional Paxil-withdrawal symptoms, about three years after my last trial of Paxil... just thought I'd throw this in here.

AD's don't "fry" brains.
