What's the best mood stabilizer for Effexor?

Posted by Anton on June 20, 2003, at 10:12:33

I'm still having a few problems with effexor and insomnia, and hyperactivity, I'm still finding it very difficult to get to sleep, it's only been the first week on effexor but it feels like speed or something so far, it has helped with depression but I'd like to know what others have taken to help stabilize the hyper insomnia effects? I'm also getting a slight ringing in my ears.

I am on Effexor 300 mg and Zyprexa 5mg. These two work excellent together. There are good studies backing this up. Ask your doc about it. The Zyprexa will definitely take care of your insomnia. It should be taken 3 hours before your normal bedtime. I have had great success with this combination. The Zyprexa can seem to sedating at first but give it a chance. If after several months and it still seems to sedating then you could maybe drop down to 2.5 mg. I would highly recommend giving it a try. FYI Zyprexa is a mood stabilizer. Good Luck!

You need to give the Effexor more time. What you describe seems to be typical side effects with beginning the med or with an increase in dosage. Just my opinion - ask your MD.
