Zoloft

Posted by renhnt on June 17, 2003, at 16:29:19

I was wondering what type of side effects anyone has experienced with Zoloft. I was prescribed Zoloft today along with Gamitril and am very scared of the side effects, espeically weight gain and lethargy. Any information would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I was on zoloft 4 four months before I stopped it to try busbar. Going off my meds sure showed me how well they were working. The busbar didn't seem to help so I quit that and went back on Zoloft. I have minimal side effects - just a sense of being a bit warmer, a hot flash once and a while, and the usual sexual disfunction(but taking ginko helps).

I experienced diarroh (or however yo spell that word!) and insomnia. It was a mediocre drug for me.

I've been on Zoloft for about a year. The only side effect I've had is no sex drive, but Wellbutrin seems to counteract that.

Delayed Ejaculation. That is all.

Is it mostly bipolars that get the anger/temper effect from Zoloft?
Thanks!

I gained almost 30 pounds... Not good. Keep an eye on weight gain.

I'm not bipolar and I'm not 'classically' depressed but I do take zoloft and I wasn't aware of how well it was working til I went off it recently and I became an emotional bitch - snapping at my husband, impatient, getting angry over stupid things, tears while watching commercials, ~obsessing over possible future conflicts. Zoloft helps me w/ all of these issues.

Busbar did nothing (only tried it 3 three weeks and made me a bit woozy). Remeron and Welbutrin - one kept me awake for 4 days and the other put me to sleep for 4 days.

good luck,

Thank you to all of you for your responses regarding Zoloft's side effects. I remain hesitant about starting this med. because of my intense apprehension, especially about the weight gain side effect. Again, thank you to all who responded to my post.

No idea.. but I would assume it to be more likely.

I have never had anger problems on SSRIs, in fact they have generally helped me to remain calm. I remember when I went up to 80 mg of Paxil... I had some pretty nasty irritability, but I backed down on the dose and ended up getting off the drug completely for some different reasons... which turned out to be a mistake.

My husband takes it and he has experienced a definite increase in weight. But to me it's worth it because he's not nearly as angry. Sometimes I think that depression in men can surface as anger - and zoloft definitely makes him not care as much, which is really good.

It's lowered his sex drive some, but that doesn't bother me at all.

I have been on Zoloft for 9 years and have never had a problem with weight gain. It was the Remeron that packed on the pounds. Stay away from that one if weight is a concern. Your appetite will soar 30 min. after taking it and you will seek out every carb in your kitchen. Not pretty.

The main side effect for me (with zoloft) is decreased libido.

I first tried Wellbutrin for anxiety, but it did nothing for me. Then I switched to Paxil. Talk about packing on the weight! But it worked wonders for the anxiety. Switched to Paxil CR (supposed to not make appetite so healthy), but I felt more anxious on it. I switched to Zoloft about 6 months ago. I lost 10 pounds (which I needed to do) and I felt GREAT! However, I've recently been diag. with ADD. I'm trying Strattera for that and went off the Zoloft. This is only my 2nd day on Strattera and no Zoloft. I'm feeling easily aggitated this evening. I'm sure it will get better, but in the mean time, my 3 and 4 year old boys are really pushing my buttons. I don't want to give up too quickly on the Strattera, but I sure was feeling alot better on Zoloft.
