More p-doc dissatisfaction

Posted by Caleb462 on May 31, 2003, at 14:02:02

So I called my p-doc... complaining that my depression had become severe, that my anxiety was as present as ever, that OCD was still alive and kicking, that I had zero motivation, no energy, and that I was becoming agoraphobic (sp?). I asked if I could try Mirapex, his reply "no you don't want that stuff". Actually, doc, I DO! His only advice was "make sure you take your meds in the morning, and I'll see you in a couple of weeks". Thanks a lot, doc.

I've always had very negative experiences with suggesting medications to pdocs. Their attitude immediately seems to change to: "Well if you're so damned smart, go cure yourself!" I had horrible akathisia and parkinson-like tremor from Lexapro. I called and left a message on the doc's machine telling him that I was extremely sick. I suggested Mirapex. I never heard back from him. Of course there are myriad reasons why he might not have returned my call, but my paranoid mind thinks it was because I was becoming proactive in my treatment. Docs seem to hate that.

Shrinks are THE most insecure people walking the Earth. They do make great punching bags though.

Give him the boot! This psychiatry is all about power. Who the hell is he to tell you what's best for you if you have researched your meds?

Assuming a patient does research drugs, is responsible, and does know the contraindications, I can't see why it shouldn't be their choice. Sure, feedback is great, but ultimately it's going into the patients body.

The only drug that has substantially helped me, after many being prescribed, whas Nardil - and I chose that after thorough research, contemplation etc.

Sure, if a patient is clueless about drugs, doesn't know the difference between a AD and AP, then it's the Dr.'s job, but otherwise I think it's best for the client to take an active role.

Actually, a lot of psychiatrists would be very upset about a forum like this - upset that patients are becoming proactive - I wonder why?

Ace.

>>>>>>It's because they are (in general) THE most insecure people on Earth....tissue-paper for skin......arrogant, pompous, egotistical twits that crave power over vulnerable and often defenseless patients to make up for their REAL feelings of complete inadequacy within.....most probably go home to their wives who no doubt slap their sappy asses around and make fun of their 2-inch peckers, lol
