Anafranil begun! The good and bad....

Posted by ace on May 11, 2003, at 21:03:11

Saturday night at around 7.30 pm. first dose 25mg.

2 hours later my derealization was terrible. My sight was hazy, I was sweating and very scared. To exclude the possibility of a serotonin syndrome I called an ambulance. At hospital It was clear to me that it was just an anxiety response (I took 4 Valium at 9.30pm when it happened) - I was calm and there was not as many physical symptoms. I left the hospital by myself.

Last night I took 25mg. No probs!! Tonight I up it to 50mg.

Good news, the OCD has become slightly worse since I began it. Two notable OCD authorities (one being Michael Jenike MD) have noted this is uasually always a good indicator for excellant respones.

It hasn't really helped derealization/phobic anxiety yet. Also waiting for it's AD response.

But, then again, I've only been on it 2 days!!

Ace.

Ace, why does the OCD has to get worse to become a good indicator for excellent responses??????

Hi

Coz i'm interested.

Thanks.

i think it's because of the stimulation of 5-HT (serotonin) autoreceptors that occurs early on (bcz of that extra serotonin floating around from the reuptake inhibition), which results in decreased 5-HT release. Eventually (within about a month) the autoreceptors downregulate and there is an increase in 5-HT release. . That's how i understand it anyway; i could be wrong.
i guess we're lucky that the autoreceptors apparently downregulate so much faster than the postsynaptic receptors-- otherwise SRIs wouldn't work, right? Weird.
