Another zoloft discontinuation/serzone issue

Posted by bookgurl99 on April 14, 2003, at 18:35:49

Due to concentration problems and numbed-out feeling, I am trying to get off of Zoloft. Any advice about how the discontinuation process works?

For two years, I was on Serzone, which worked great for me. But I developed a sensitive reaction to it, and was unable to take it.

I have ocd -- the kind where something out of place fills me with dread and adrenaline-racing panic. But I am a really sociable, happy person, and Serzone allowed me to feel that again. Zoloft just robs my mind and feelings. The fear is gone, but so is the happiness.

Does anyone have suggestions for something else that may work? I've considered Effexor due to it's also being a dual-action drug. Any suggestions/experiences?

Thanks.

Yeah, Zoloft was crap for me. You want to know abot the discontinuation? I don't know if I should...The first time I went off Zoloft, after about 4-5 weeks, the most blackest, worse depression came to me. This was NOT a return of symptoms because all I was treated for was OCD. But this depression was major - cognitive impairment, concentration probs, severe anhedonia, absolutely horrid. Also it made my derealization and phobic anxiety very very bad - and while I was on it it didn't help! I had to restart the Zoloft. But it was too late for uni - had to pull out. Dr. Shipko says this is typical of a Zoloft discontinuation. 2nd time off it I was alright, cause I went straight to a brilliant drug called Nardil (I had to be drug-free for two weeks but).

I'd consider Tramadol, an MAOI, or Anafranil.
Just IMO.

Good Luck,

Ace,

whoa. thx for the warning. maybe i'll get off zoloft -- i _knew_ i shouldn't be on it! -- and have something as a backup right away (once the 2 week period is over).

this sucks, as i really want to be able to get off meds.

i'm wondering why you suggested the meds that you did?

p.s. but you know, i have a friend who has disassociative identity disorder (the new word for MPD), and she was on a slew of psych meds. everything -- AP's, AD's, a benzo, etc. She decided to get off of them because they didn't seem to really help her symptoms. she had _no_ discontinuation symptoms. strange, hmm? or lucky.

This is the end of the thread.
