So tired I could cry...

Posted by Snoozy on April 13, 2003, at 21:31:22

Hi - I'm a new member. For months I have had a terrible problem with sleepiness - I can sleep 10 hours at night, and take 1-2 hour naps during the day, and still be always sleepy. I'm getting to the point of being desperate to be alert. I haven't had any changes in medication, or any other physical ailments. I have been taking Wellbutrin SR 400 mg a day for about 2 years. (I did have insomnia when I started the Wellbutrin). Over the years I have been on just about every antidepressant and also Ritalin. When I took Ritalin, I got these bad headaches (it felt like I had on one of those rubber bands they put on broccoli stalks). I was wondering if anyone else had a problem with severe sleepiness, and if they found anything that helped? Thanks very much for any input.

An alternate medicine for this might be Parnate.
Or even Paxil (although I don't like SSRIs). Stay away from TCAs.
Also, maybe take a smaller dose of Ritalin so as to avoid headaches. ie. Slowely titrate it.

Seriously, you should try Provigil. I'm also tired all the time, plus poor memory and concentration. Provigil lasts 15 hours so you only have to take it once in the morning. Plus, insomnia isn't common with it. It's non-addictive and non-abusive with a low instance of side effects so I'm sure your doctor wouldn't mind prescribing it to you. It's really helped me a lot. It's used mainly for narcolepsy but recently has been used to augment for depression. You may want to check out this small article:

Here's another link you might want to read. It's for Adrafinil which is almost the same as Modafinil(Provigil). This description would also describe Provigil...

Parnate was nice. I'd get sleepy around the same time, but wake up 5 or 6 hours later, totally refreshed.

With ritalin + effexor, I have a bit of trouble getting to sleep, but I still sleep a fair amount.

i totally feel you!! i always joke about my beauty sleep being important to me, but my average night is at least 10 hours, plus a 2 hour nap before dinner. no matter what, i have to sleep that much or else i get really irritable.

my mom made us sleep as kids so they could have 'a break' and hence, my brothers and i all sleep huge amounts.

my doc has me on 20 mgs of ritalin 3x a day - but i only take 20 mgs on the days that i cannot drag myself out of bed at all - especially if i have an engagement that i must attend.

if you do happen to find something that works, i would love to hear of it - until then - dont let the bedbugs bite!

I'm afraid I have found something that works (to keep me from sleeping anyway): extreme crisis anxiety. I can't sleep at all, so here I find myself on the computer at 4 am.

Not at all what I had in mind!
