lexapro and weight gain

Posted by diane123456 on February 19, 2003, at 21:58:03

I have gained weight on lexapro. I was originally on Celexa and loved the pill except for the low sex drive. I don't see a difference with Lexapro and I have also gained weight. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Same deal here. I've been on Lexapro for about 2 months - very low sex drive and a weight gain of about 8 lbs. I had a baby last year and am still overweight, so these additional pounds really bother me. I've read posts on this board that have suggested that Wellbutrin might help control the weight gain- in my case it caused anxiety but it might work better for you. Wellbutrin is also prescribed in conjunction with other SSRIs to counteract sexual disfunction. I was on Wellbutrin with the Lex until a couple days ago, and by itself in 2000. I was about 20 lbs lighter 2 years ago, so maybe the Wellbutrin did help keep my weight down, come to think of it! Good luck to you - hope you find the right mix.

I'm on 30mg Lexapro and continue to gain weight no matter what. It also has obliterated any sense of what used to be my sex drive. It does nothing for me.

I was on Celexa and gained over 20 pounds - my doctor switched me to Lexapro because of my weight gain complaint. I am trying to lose weight and seriously have no idea how the medication affects my weight gain at all. Since I have been on the Lexapro, I stopped weighing myself regularly but I am sure I have stayed the same weight - no gain but no loss despite exercise and diet changes. How do I know if I am just exercising off the weight gain that I would be getting from the medication? I have no idea. I am also reading all the posts under this question for more input from others on weight gain issues with Lexapro. I need to lose 20-30 pounds and I am not able to.
