Hi,
I have been on ssris for depression/mood disorder for many years. For many years I have been trying to find a better med or combination of meds that would relieve my mood disorder without killing my orgasms-I am male!.To describe my disorder I would say I am not BP, or psychotic. I am not even sadly depressed, but rather lack motivation and desire. My anxiety is high and I can really lose my temper. Throw things punch walls, even punch myself. But I am never violent toward other people, just myself and objects. I also have bad insomnia.
Anyway, for years I have been trying to solve this problem without wrecking my sex life.
I am currently taking Celexa 20mg qd in the AM, Buspar 15mg bid, ritalin 5mg qd in the AM, and Xanax .5mg before bed. This works OK, but still have a hard time achieving orgasm.Could anyone comment on replacing Celexa with low dose-2.5mg to 5mg Zyprexa. My Pdoc has suggested, but I am reluctant because Zyprexa seems to have lots of side effects or does it?

I was given zyprexa as an adjunct to prozac. It definitely knocked me out at night to get sleep, but the only problem was that I would want to sleep all the next day. It made me unmotivated to do anything yet, oddly enough, calm and content and not really caring that I was unmotivated. Until of course something came up where I needed motivation and energy. It will greatly counteract only 5mg. of ritalin by the way

I'm on 5mg Zyprexa at the moment, but have been up to 12.5mg at times...
I have found, even at 5mg, a marked decrease in energy levels, and motivation!! Its the only side effect I get.. For me its saved my life and is my own personal wonder drug.. I'm still dperessed and still do nothing, but I'm not actively suicidal 23 hours a day.

I think the idea of going to Zyprexa is a great one. Of course, I really like Zyprexa, so I'm a little biased.
As for the SSRI, you might consider switching from Celexa to Prozac. I say that for two reasons. First, Prozac can have fewer side effects than the other SSRIs. Women have reported hypersexuality. I personally experience a slight increase in desire and no problems with orgasm. All the other SSRIs were completely numbing to my sex life. Prozac stands alone. Second, it often works better for your kind of depression than other SSRIs.
But for your kind of depression, I am personally doubtful that an SSRI alone will help. The addition of Zyprexa should make a huge difference. And you won't need a benzo to sleep. You'll sleep great.
There are two overseas meds that are particularly helpful for the symptom cluster you described. They are Adrafinil and Amisulpride. It is against policy to discuss here how to get these meds, but they are easily available. Personally I find both of them to be excellent Prozac enhancers.

bampf i am very interested to hear about ritalins effects with and without zyprexa
i am taking 40 mg of ritalin sr with 5 mg zyprexa
and the ritalin seems to have less effect than a
couple cans of cola.. and i'm told 40 mg of ritalin
sr is a high dose ?!(i take zyprexa for mood stability, bipolar type 2)

ummm... might the safest thing to try for anger be a benzo or mood stabilizer (i.e. anticonvulsant?)i love zyprexa, but i don't think it would be appropriate for me to recommend it as a first line med in anger control (narcissistic aggressive personality? intermittent explosive? whatever)
