Ongoing withdrawal effects

Posted by Squiggles on July 16, 2002, at 17:09:33

Hello,

Ever since I tried to withdraw from
clonazepam (a mistake in retrospect),
i developed some serious and some not
so serious effects. The not so serious
effects are

- something like sinusitis, hard to describe;
- gastrointestinal problems, frquent diarrhea
(but that had gone one during the withdrawal for
a year or so);
- still have the fluctuations in fever and
blood pressure but much better once my dr. allowed
me to increase the dose.

I have now increased the dose of clonazepam
even higher than when I started to withdraw.
Because I cut the pills (6x .250) per day, i
notice that i have lapses of head problems, which
go away either with the clonazepam (faster) or
with the lithium I take.

I am hoping that it is a matter of time and
not some irreversible state of affairs. Any
feedback/info. appreciated.

Thank you

Squiggles

Hi Squiggles;

I take clonazepam, and when I read posts of people trying to get off it, I get a little worried. I was on Xanax for 7 yrs (.50 x 4/day), withdrew off it in less than two weeks with severe withdrawal affects but nothing like what I've been reading about Clonazepam. People just don't seem able to get off Clonazepam without encountering major problems. I'm not sure it's a drug I want to continue taking but now Im to scared to stop it. In your post you stated you have "lapses of head problems" what do you mean by that? Take care for now.

Are you taking it for panic disorder? I ask because many of the symptoms you describe are often part of panic disorder- sinusitis, GERD, etc, Perhaps the klonopin was keeping your symptoms at bay, rather than withdrawal- which is usually insomnia, irritability, sometimes seizures at high doses (which you're not taking). I take 6mg/day- 2mg tid- and except for lowering during pregnancy have been on that dose for hmmm 5 years? I know I will always take it, it just helps me so much. good luck- judy

Hi Judy,

No , at the time i was prescribed it
was strictly for bipolar GAD - i am
not sure if this is still done.

Hi,
Actually it is- klonopin is often mentioned as an adjunct mood stabilizer and of course as a benzo will help with GAD. Take care, judy
