Anxiety/twitches

Posted by Panic_AttacK on June 26, 2002, at 18:13:33

I havent posted here in a while... I have been taking SERZONE for my anxiety which has been going pretty good. I still take small amounts of REMERON when needed. As you all may or may not know.... over a year ago... i did something that changed my entire life. I had a cocaine overdose that landed me with severe panic/anxiety attacks. But i also seem to have a twitch that bothers the hell out of me. Its in my right index finger. It twitches all day 24/7. It doesnt stop. I can see my pulse and it just ticks all day long. Anybody know what it is? Did the cocaine mess up my nervous system which would cuz just my ONE finger to twitch? I went to a neurologist... had an EEG... results were fine. I have appt. for an MRI next week.... (whatever the hell an MRI is???) This twitch is very noticable and i have to sit on my hand sometimes to cover it up. My doc didnt even care to answer my question when i asked him what it is. Maybe some of you can relate or help? Thanks...

I am not an expert but I believe twitching can mean that some bad neurological stuff can be going on. I also have a drug history and suffered from twitching when I overdid it. You're not still using, right?
MRI means magnetic resonant imaging. Your doctor needs a good reason to order one because the tests are expensive. A computerized x-ray machine will take x-rays of your brain in cross-sections.
If anything is wrong, they'll find it.

Well...just to note that I don't think twitches always indicate something is wrong "upstairs"..heh. I have had certain meds cause twitches in me, but once the meds where stopped, they also stopped. I think it can often be just a "nervous energy" thing...but I think you are right, in that a doctor should check it out.

Just my .02 cents (1/3 a cent Canadian;-)

Yuh, like I said, I am no expert. I have also been fortunate that the muscle twitches experienced with drug use (including an eye tic with ephedrine) gradually went away once the drug was discontinued. So I would associate twitching
as an adverse drug reaction unless,of course, a neurological disorder like Tourettes was responsible. I have never heard of a twitch continuing for a year after drug use/medication had been stopped. I guess they don't suspect the Serzone could be a factor.
I would be very interested in learning the results of Panic's MRI and what, if any, treatment is prescribed.

Thanks for your responses =) I never had this twitch until after the overdose. And it happened before/during my medication. So I know its not due to medication =( I wish it was. My index fingers just ticks all day to the beat of my heart and its very obvious. Well my MRI is scheduled for JUL 3rd... and i dont get my results until JUL 17th... ill keep you all updated. =)

I'm on Serzone. I had an eye twitch last year that lasted about three months. It was so severe twice that my eye squeezed shut. Nothing showed up on an MRI or CT except a sinus infection. Once that was cleared, the twitch subsided. When my sinuses begin to clog again, I use Flonase, and I don't twitch. I get it briefly when I sneeze or when I lose sleep, but that's it.

After a bad antibiotic, I got body spasms that didn't go away for two months. Docs thought I had fibromyalgia, but it was just a bad reaction. And though most reactions go away after about ten days of stopping the medication, some can last up to a year. Once in awhile, I get a leg spasm or an arm spasm, but it's usually nothing and goes away.

Muscles can also go into spasm if they are tight or out of whack. If the MRI is fine, get a massage!

Who told you results would be on July 17th?

That's silly. Your MRI should be read by a radiologist on the day of the test or the next day. Dictation should be transcribed within the next two days. Your doctor should recieve a typed report two or three days following transcription.
Taking into account the July 4th holiday and the following weekend, the results of your MRI should be available to your doctor by the 10th.
