novel meds for ADHD, effexor, selegiline, etc

Hi saw this run-down of meds for ADD, actually covers most that I have seen mentioned on PB, not too much depth but nice overview.

Specifically this was the bit on effexor, as an example:

Effexor and Effexor-XR (venlafaxine) An open trial (not a controlled study) with adults suggested that it might be helpful for some adults with AD/HD. In an open, 5-week study of children and adolescents with AD/HD, some individuals showed an improvement in behavioral but not cognitive measures. Several experienced worsening of their AD/HD symptoms and 25% could not tolerate the medication due to side effects. It is a good idea to monitor blood pressure since some individuals on Effexor show a rise in blood pressure. Sudden discontinuation of Effexor may lead to nausea and vomiting.

Kate, I have ADHD & I was told (& tend to agree from my own experience) that many ADs, especially SSRIs, help control one part of ADHD - impulsiveness, better than other meds. It seems to do little for the other aspects of ADHD I have but I find I can exhibit verbal & mental self-control with an SSRI. My ability to think before I speak especially is much better. Most find me respectful & tactful & have commented on it. I'm not so sure I'd be like that without an AD.
